In home cardio exercises for rainy days?

Hello everyone. We had a storm yesterday, big one, and it's all wet outside this morning. I really feel guilty for not doing my cardio. I saw somewhere this one High intensity cardio exercise that you can do at home.

Get in "sprint" ready position. (both hands on the floor, and legs)
And then you begin to alternate legs very fast as though you are running, but really not. I tried it, and I have to say, it is rather hard. Which leads me to believe that this is a good substitute for missed cardio.

Is this exercise any good? Just incase I have to miss it again. Does this work better than regular running?

Thank's for your time.

The exercise you are talking about is called mountain climbers and though they are probably not as efficient as actual running, I think they are a suitable substitute. There are other exercises you could try, performed in circuit fashion which will get your heart rate just as high as when you run.Try this circuit:

mountain climbers 30 seconds
burpees 30 seconds
jumping jacks 30 seconds
high knees/run in place 30 seconds

After this circuit you can either rest for 30 seconds or repeat the circuit for whatever duration of time you like.

Burpees:

Exercise

thats a perfect exercise
you can do it
another exercise is hop as hgih as possible in one place
skipping is also a very good exercise indoors
if you that fixed cyle at home there is nothing like it

I guess I was somewhat lazy this morning, and didn't really want to run.

1. It was cold
2. It keeps getting DARKER and DARKER at 6am.
3. My dogs leash was no where to be found, because I usually run with my dog

So, I decided to give this "circuit" training a go. WOW.

1 minute in I was KILLING my legs. I had to rest for over a minute because I couldnt get my legs moving. I always thought plain running for 20 minutes worked my legs for me, thus is why I never trained them seperately. I still worked up a sweat, not as much as cardio, but then again, I took at least 5 minutes total rest in between the 20 minute circuit.

I think I will continue jogging until it gets REALLY cold. Then, I basically can devote 4 months of pure circuit every morning. Man, I have to say, would rather run than do circuits. :p

you can also do "countdowns". do 10 push-ups, immediately followed by 10 leg-lifts, followed by 10 jumping jacks, followed by 10 mountain climbers. when finished do 9 push-ups, leg-lifts, etc. do this until you reach 0 and if you like, start the process from 0 and get back up to 10. it's important to not rest between each exercise, do them as fast as possible with good form.

I don't think I can accomplish that...

You said not to rest between exercises, but do I rest between sets, for instance. do 10 pushup, 10 leg lifts, 10 jumping jack, 10 mountain climbers.
Then rest for 30 seconds or so, then do next set??? Also does anyone have a visual link how to do mountain climbers??? ;)

Well, it is another day. Today I did not want to go running. But, oddly enough, it turned out I COULD not go running.

1) When I usually go, 6:10am~, it began to rain, and thunder outside. :D
2) My shoulders are KILLING me.

Honestly, I was *supposed* work out my upper body today, again, did not WANT to, but I think that circuit I did yesterday destroyed me shoulders! I did jumping jacks, berpies, and the mountain thing. My first time doing it, so it is expected, I guess.

I just did abdominals today. I guess it is an okay day.

yes you can take a 30 second break between countdown sets - but try not to do more than that, and eventually try not to take a break at all in between them.

the soreness you're feeling BTW, is probably from not being used to the exercises you did. as you do them more often you'll get more accustomed to it. it's all about repetition. :)

Thank you all very much for your help! :D
