In desperate need of support...

Hi ya'll...

I am quite pleased that I have found this site. I'm a 25 year old gal living in Tampa, FL. Pretty much my entire life (early teens and up) I have been overweight. I currently at topping the scales at 275, which is horrid. I don't even know how I got here. I DO know that I'm miserable being like this. It's hard to find support in my life. Everyone I know or work with is either a skinny minnie, happy with the way they are OR want to lose weight but aren't really serious about it and could care less if they do or not. I've made some big changes in my personal life in the last year. One of which was picking up and moving to a completely new town, after living in the same place for 20-something years. I don't know a single person down here, which makes it even more difficult to find a support system.

I hope I can bring as much to the table in the way of words and wisdom as I have already seen and read here on this board so far (without even posting anything).

This is my last big attempt to lose weight on my own before I resort to the gastric bypass surgery. I want to see what I am made of and see me accomplish this without failing.

Hi,

I would have to say that there are many better alternatives to the surgery. A big part of the weight loss battle is to get motivated enough. Plus it takes a strong discipline in sticking to a diet and exercise routine. It is a lot easier said than done. However, as long as you have the will to do it, you will achieve your goal. Everyone who's been there, done that can tell you that the reward is tremendous.

I just start a weight loss motivation blog:
Hope you can find something helpful there.

Cheers!

Terry

Hi!

You can do this! I started almost where you are - 245 - just 7 weeks ago. I'm already down 17 pounds. It just takes being accountable for what you eat and exercise. I strongly suggest walking, because it is so good for you and almost anyone can do it! As an added bonus, if you lose just 5 to 7% of your current weight, and walk 5 times a week for 30 minutes, you can cut your risk of diabetes by a LOT!

Good luck with all your efforts!

I know what you mean by always being overweight. Even though I'm only 17, I've always been overweight. Everyone I work with is skinny too, and everytime I ask them how they stay skinny, they just say, "Oh! I don't know... I hate exercising." Such lucky people... Don't worry! You don't need that surgery, you can loose weight all by yourself. You've already started great by joining this forum. Everyone here is really awesome. Just take it one step at a time, and you wont fail. What is your goal weight? By the way, I like Tampa a lot. I sort of live by Tampa. If you ever need to talk or anything, you can PM me, or drop a post in my diary. I'll be checking up on you anyways though!

I'm just starting off too TampaChick, just think positive, don't let a doubt enter your mind, you can do it! We're here for you.

Welcome to the forum, Tampachick :D A diary is the best way to get the support you need. It helps us get to know you better and figure out what you truly need by way of support and being held accountable. You CAN do this! Drink the water, post as often as you can, and let us be a part of your support system :D

Thanks ya'll. It's going to take me a few visits here to fully get where I need to post and read stuff. I did create an account with fitday.com to track what I eat each day. I REALLY like that site. It takes away the guess work of what you consume.

Hi THERE

Hi TampaChick,
Can you tell us more about your situation?

Like what are you eating habits? What are your excising habits?
What have you done in the past to lose weight? how did these methods work for you?

Well, my eating habits are actually quite horrid, to be honest. I work a bunch, so I grab what I can, when I can. Unfortunately, I've been eating a LOT of fast food lately.

As far as exercising.... with being entirely busy with work, I'm discovering that I need to take time for me. I'm going to start out slowly with walking or biking.

In the past I've tried, Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and anything else that has been popular over the years. None of them really worked for me. Nutrisystem actually made me gain weight, which was quite discouraging.

I'm hoping that I'm not going to be a slacker this time. The time has come for me to do what I need to do. I want to be able to live to see my thirties. :)

Tampa, YOU CAN DO THIS! I, too am busy beyond belief (hence the name "BizeB") but have found that planning is KEY to making this work :D Plan your meals the day before and, to make the mornings easier, pack what you can for lunches and make breakfast ahead as much as you can. May I say that protein shakes, homemade with frozen fruit and protein powder, are quick to make and portable (just put a little more liquid in it than your protein powder calls for or it gets thick). One holds me over for about 3 hours. I also bring a cooler packed full of fruit (fresh, frozen or lite canned) and already cut veggies. ANother option is low-fat cheese to go with the fruit :D

Hope this helps! :D

I wasted entirely too many years with my excuse that I was too busy to eat properly... don't do that please... :) you can make the time to eat right, it just takes a little bitof preplanning... and you'll be so much happier in the long run...

there's lots of lunches yuo can bring to work - even stash in your desk drawer so you don't have to rely on fast food (you might even save yourself a few dollars

The fad diets only seem to work in the short term, what works in the long term is actually chaging your eating habits, i've read often it takes two weeks to build a habit,. so it's the first two weeks that are te roughest...

You can do this if you want to -- we'll give you tons of encouagement and support :)

Hello and Hugs Tampchic!

Well, I can share with you my own personal lifestyle changes that helped me

NO POP - stay away from it, the sugar in pop makes your food cravings stronger especially diet sodas. DRINK buttloads of water instead, never go low on the H2O.

NO FRIED FOODS - worst things for you is anything fried, that includes fried veggies.

AVOID FATTY DESSERTS - This is my own personal weakness since I adore ice cream. But substitute rich fatty goodies for like Jello or nonfat frozen yogurt instead.

DON"T SKIP MEALS - I used to do this thinking if I ate one big meal a day it would sustain me. Boy, was I wrong, not only did I not loose wieght, I actually gained a few pounds ontop of that.

I hope my advice helps you a little bit cuz this is the stuff that is working for me now. You can PM me and I just want you to know that I am there for you and I will try my best to be supportive. :)
