Improving Speed

hi, im a 14 yr old freshman. For track team, im more into sprinting (100m, 200m, and relays) than running. im wondering, is runnin/walkin in a pool good enough to work on speed? i have till spring when track starts.

thanks,

Sprinting takes a lot of upper body strength, so make sure to do some upper body workouts as well.

Sprints, strength, and sprints!

Strength training is important for speed development, so make sure its part of your total body arsenal in your quest for speed. Sprint training for anaerobic endurance in your events will also aid you. Sprint training is worthless though, unless you're working on good running/sprinting form and mechanics throughout your training.

Do some plyometrics

Plyometrics build up muscle power, which is essential for sprinting. Research has also found that doing plyometrics also develops fast twitch muscle fibres- which will improve your speed.
Examples of plyometrics are bounding, skipping etc.
