improving my acceleration

hi, i'm 14, and about 10 st 2lb and i'm quite into running (400m). but i'm having some problems with improving my acceleration. i can get to a good speed, but it seems to take longer than other people. is there a way i can improve this? i'm quite slim, so do i need to bulk out a bit so i've got more muscle power? and are there any exercises that i can do to improve?

hi, how do i know if my technique is very good? i don't have a coach, so i don't really know. i'll do some one legged squats. i think i'm quite strong, but i'm too thin, i'm nearly 15, and i am 5' 8'' tall and weigh 10st. are there any exercises that i can do to build muscle without the use of equipment? what sort of weight should i be at my age to do 400m?
