Importance of sleep?

so sorry if this has been posted somewhere already (i couldnt find it...)

but i was wondering what is considered a healthy length of time for one to sleep prior to working out...?

for example, would it force the body into fatigue if someone is going on 3 hours of sleep, and then proceeds to lift the next day? or is it irrelevant if diet is consumed properly?

should someone who has a couple hours of sleep the night prior just skip the physical exertion of working out and go to sleep?

some days i am completely exhausted from working two jobs, and i will get home at 1030pm, shower, prepare for the next day, and some times be unable to fall asleep until 3pm... wake at 6am on some days and repeat. how do i know when to sleep and when to exercise?

Most adults need anywhere between 6-8 hours of sleep to function at optimal level, but I find if I work out on a regular basis, my own sleep needs diminish significantly.

Before, when I was sitting around all the time, I could easily sleep 8-9 hours and still be tired. Now I can stay up until one, get up at six, and still feel pretty good.

I think if you're sleep-deprived it will probably affect your energy level, which will probably affect your effectiveness at the gym.

I would try to get more sleep than 3 hours though, because I find that lack of sleep DOES cause me to lose less weight than if I get my full six hours, for some reason. Might just be me, but somehow I doubt it...your body does a lot of maintenance work in your sleep.

I also find I am more bloated throughout the day when I sleep less. When I sleep more, I wake up with a flatter stomach... always thought it was my imagination, but with all my lack of sleep, it truly is the case for me

Relax

You sound like you can't get to sleep at night and you setup till 3? Have you tried going to sleep after you get home or are you doing something else?

It all depends on how much you normally sleep. Personally, I get like 3-4 hours a night (if I'm lucky), so my body is pretty used to working on such a small amount of rest. But, if you are used to getting 7-8 hours of sleep, your body would freak out if you tried to exercise on 3-4 hours of sleep.

I need at least 6 hours of sleep to function. If I get 6 hours, functioning is all I can do though. Give me 8, and I'll actually be awake and with it, and able to work out and stuff.

I can easily sleep 24 hours in a row, without so much as going to the bathroom. I love to sleep. Guess it's because sleeping means not having to deal with all the real life crap.....

And I'm a night person. I'm more awake after 10 pm than at any other time of the day. Can stay awake all night, and sleep all day. Or could, if it was possible anyway.
