Hey everyone! :)

My name is Jackie Noel (AKA - Tornado Days)...me and Jeff (my b/f of 10 years) got a new chocolate lab pup in the summer of 2005 and she is like a tornado the way she runs around the house; hence, the name. She joined our little farm of 2 other dogs (one being a yellow lab) and cat. :D

Anyways, since November 2004, I have lost 18 pounds weighing in at 218 @ 5'10". I'm down to 200 now, but want to get down to 170-175. I'm in no major hurry...if only a couple pounds a week. I lost the bulk of my 18 pounds in the first 8-9 months for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. Now that I have no goal event to reach for, I'm lost and can't seem to get anymore off. I've plateaued for the past few months.

I have some junk food in the house that I don't want to throw out (and probably won't), but I am ready to start losing weight and meeting new friends.

PM me or e-mail me (tornadodays06@yahoo.ca) any time. I'd love to meet anyone of any age.

Tornado Days :)

Hi Jackie, welcome to our forum. We are a supportive group and we will help you to acheive your weight loss goals!

Congrat's on your weight loss!! Thats always a nice thing to hear.

I'm a little concerned about your statement "I have junk food in the house and I dont' want to throw it out (I probably won't)" Thats kinda a red flag to me. It could mean maybe you really arn't truely ready to loose weight yet. Or maybe you are, but I'm afraid w/ leaving the junk in the house, are you setting yourself up for failure. I dont' want to say things like that, but I am being honest w/ you. You should re consider throwing out the junk.

What kind of diet plan are you on??? Do you count calories? Loosing weight comes down to cals in vs cals out. thats it.

Anyways, we are here for you no matter what you decide to do! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Jackie. Congratulations on the 18 pounds lost. Thats great! I think you have the right attitude about only losing a few pounds a week. Everything I have read suggest that losing weight slowly is one key to keeping it off in the long term. I find it hard, because I like immediate results, so I have to keep reminding myself that losing a little at a time is actually a good thing.

I am pretty new here as well. I hope you find this forum as motivating and inspiring as I have. It is a great place to come and talk to people who know exactly what you are going through (and they help keep you accountable as well). Welcome! :)

Hey newbride02,

Thanks for your response.

When I said that I had junk food in the house, it's really not much...just one sleeve of cookies and part of a bag of chips. It's truly not that much, plus Jeff doesn't want to lose weight (he has a flat belly and looks good), so he'll end up eating it anyways. Having Jeff around here means that I'll always be around junk food (for him) and that's all. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about that. It'll be hard, I know, but when I lost the bulk of my weight before, I had the same temptations around me, but was motivated, and never touched any of the junk food Jeff had around. My problem is that I don't have a goal event in which to lose the weight. Christmas is too far away and there are no 'big events' for our friends/family this year.

I'm not on a diet as such. I usually walk one or more dogs almost daily, but not during the winter...it's just to cold in the evenings. The other three seasons of the year, I love walking!! On weekends, I've been known to go for walks up to four times a day, depending on weather. I've tried the gym thing, but the closet gym to me is approx. 30 minutes away and not even en route to work...it's kinda out of the way for us. With regards to eating...it's pretty simple. I only eat half portions of what I use to eat (ie., instead of 2 hamburgers, only 1 and half the fries)(or...instead of one big bowl of fried rice, half bowl). I'll have toast and a piece of fruit for breakfast, fruit snack around mid-morning, sandwich and fruit or veggies for lunch, fruit or veggie snack mid-afternnon, and for supper it usually varies...could be BBQ, pasta, meat, soup, breakfast...whatever my mood really. I try not to snack after supper, but if I do it's usually popcorn or fruit and never at 8:30ish. Oh, and I drink lots of water and have my cup of coffee in the morning. Milk and juice intake are usually very minimal, but I do drink them.

A friend of mine was on the points system with Weight Watchers and did fantastic with it, but I just don't have the patience to count points, calories, etc.

I just don't know why I plateaued...

Hey Jackie, congrats on the 18 lbs gone so far! Your stats sound just like mine! I am 5 10, I started off at 222.

and u sound like me with your food intake, I am not on a diet, but cutting portions, I still enjoy the food that I always loved, but just in moderation now. water is my only problem, its like I forget to drink it during the day.
good luck and welcome to the forum!

good luck to you. im new too. I like the idea of maybe just cutting back on portions, tho how i can cut back on chocolate im not sure, but im sure with the support from you lot we will all get there!

take care and good luck

Thats exactly wha i have been doing , cutting back on portions, and i have found in the last 2 weeks, my appetite is sooooo different, I dont feel hungry all the time like i used to, i guess i am more aware of what my body wants now. when i am hungry, i eat, but i am also finding that i fill up a lot faster now too, which is good!

Cutting back on chocolate....that's a toughy. You just have to be motivated and want to lose the weight. A chocolate bar here and there shouldn't knock you off the wagon, but I find that if I get cravings, which I have...water really works...after 15 minutes, the craving should be gone away.

ya I've been having a lot of cravings the last couple of days....I have been craving salty foods, like potato chips, but the funny thing is...I never liked potato chips before, but now I want them!

Well, I'm off now until February 6th....true challenge being around food all day/all night. I'm sure I can do it though. The only thing is, I won't get to weigh in on Monday morning, so I won't know how I did this week.

I did do pretty good actually...the main downfall was we had fish and chips with dressing and gravy one night the week (I had one piece of fish and about half the fries they gave me with only a dribble of gravy and a little bit of dressing), but other than that, it was sandwiches, fruits, veggies, water, and chicken all week with NO cravings...that's a first! And...I didn't even have mid-morning/afternoon snacks. :D
