I'm new to track - what running regimen should I have??

Hi,
track season begins in about a month at my high school, and I have absolutely no idea how I should be running each evening. I created a little circuit of my own that runs about 2.5 miles, but will that prepare me for what students describe as "grueling" and the first week of track as a "horror story"? By the way, I'm planning on being a sprinter.

Also, beside running, what else would be beneficial in preparation for track?

I am sure you will make it. Run gradual and harder/ faster. Everytime. Good luck
