Hello,
I am not overweight, but I would like to offer support to those who are. I am not promoting anything like a website or selling any products. What is motivating me to do this is I want to use the time I spend online more positively and I think people should support one another when they are trying to improve themselves.
I was extremely skinny as a boy -- the skinniest boy in school. I know overweight people don't want to hear someone complain about being skinny. I just mention this because I was made fun of a lot. When you are a boy and extremely skinny you are seen as weak, and girls don't find you attractive. I don't know what it's like to be made fun of for being overweight and I don't know if my experience was as rough as the average overweight person's. However, I can somewhat relate in that I know what it's like to be made fun of for how my body looks. I remember not wanting to gain weight because I didn't want the bullies to be right.
Over 10 years ago, I started exercising in the form of running, mainly because I thought it would help with me feeling ill all the time and not sleeping well. About 5 years ago, I started intentionally gaining weight in a healthy way and lifting weights. I've stuck with it and feel better physically, have more confidence, and am stronger. Thinking back to my life, I wish rather than make fun of me, someone would have pulled me aside and offered to show me how to eat better and how to lift weights. I realized that now I have learned about fitness, I can be the person to help others.
I think fitness and health should be accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, some people who have learned a lot about fitness use their knowledge to intimidate others who haven't learned about it. They want to feel better than other people because they are insecure. One of the few lessons I remember from middle school was when my health teacher said, "Don't blow out other people's candles to make yours brighter."
I'm definitely not an expert and don't have all the answers, but I can be a supportive person who can offer a few pieces of advice. I can also be someone whom you can talk to, either in posts or private messages, about any emotional issues you might have surrounding your weight, like past experiences that might have contributed to your weight, or feelings of discouragement as you work to lose weight.
