Im doing something wrong....

Hi, my name is Ted and I have been on a weight loss routine for about 6 weeks now and have yet to lose any weight (aside from the two pounds I lost in the first week).

I go to the gym before work and do cardio 5 days a week, and I go do weights after work about 4 days a week. I have been eating approx. 2000 calories a day. I'm not really strict about writing them down I do keep track in my head through out the day.

Am i just being impatient? I was expecting a little more results after 6 weeks of working out.

What am I doing wrong????:willy_nilly:

Hey,

I would say with your routine and being 300+lbs, you should be dropping big numbers!

Most likely gonna be your nutrition thats letting you down. Read around the Forum, find out what your BMR is so you can work out how many calories you need, make sure you write them down aswell.

Once thats in check, mixed with your exercise routine, you should hopefully get the ball rolling

Thanks for the advice...I have checked my BMR and it says I should consume 3800 calories a day!!! That just seems like its to much.

It doesn't mean you should consume 3800, that's how many calories your body burns just by being a body. It means that any less than that will put you in a defecit and in a position to lose more weight. I know you keep a mental note of your cals, but you should REALLY be logging them on FitDay or another website just to make sure you're not missing anything, at least for the beginning.

I'd try writing down your calories instead of just keeping them in your head. When you're not too strict, the calories slip right under your nose (that is to say----right into your mouth?).

LowFatMilk, you are soooooo right! *sigh* Write 'em down, pal. I also endorse FitDay as a terrific and cheap way to keep track.

cheers and good luck!

Well I have taken everyones advise and got a FitDay account. It seems pretty easy to use.

I do feel like I'm starting all over again tho...:banghead:

It can be frustrating but it's all part of the journey.

One thing to take in to account though is physical changes as opposed to just weight changes. You should take pictures of yourself every once in a while so you can compare. Sometimes you can never tell by just looking in a mirror that you've lost anything, but when you compare old photos with new ones it looks completely different.

I have noticed that I have more energy and stuff like that. Plus I have an established routine. So the first six weeks haven't been a total loss.
