Sport If I were to stop eating and drinking ...

Sport Fitness
Hello all,
Assume I'm a healthy male of thirty-something years and of the correct weight for someone 5'8" tall. Now, If I were to stop eating and drinking, does anyone know what areas of my body would be used up first for my body's sustenance? Is it the fat stores, muscle groups, something else or a combination of various groups simultaneously (but then in what proportions and at what rates?).

Probably an odd question but it's something I've been wondering for a while.
Thanks very much )

My guess is, your muscles would start deteriorating first. Then your organs would stop working as well. Fat storage might be used for fuel, but I doubt you would be doing much cardiovascular activities while starving yourself.

I hope this is hypothetical.

Yeah, this question is a bit scary ... I hope you are not considering doing this to yourself. If you are, please seek help immediately.

yeah cause the body can barely survive 3 days without liquids, but its pretty safe to say after 1 and a half youd be in pretty bad shape. Please say this is just a "im curious" question.

after 5 mins without air, you would be dead.
after 5 days without water you would be dead.
after 5 weeks without food, you would be dead.

the rule of 5.

Now, what's with the question? Starvation NEVER works for rapid weight loss...not the good kind at least.
When's the last time a cancer patient on chemo looked 'good, vivid and healthy'?

Having watched two loved ones die of cancer, I can answer that with a definitive "NEVER".

Thanks everyone!

Thank you all so much for your replies (and your concern). This question is very hypothetical! Simple curiosity, that's all ... like thinking about what would happen if the earth were to stop spinning, or if every customer of a bank wanted to withdraw all of their savings at the same time.

Now stop worrying about me: I'm enjoying some great chilli and a cold beer while I watch the World Cup taking place in Germany. Take care )

word to that! :D

Ditto.
Funny enough the body actually slows down weight loss when you stop eating.
Your metabolism creeps to a hault, energy is diminished, etc.
So if you want to lose weight....Eat:D

no problem...but we had to check and make sure. we get people on here thinking they can drink 2 glasses of lemonade a day, and a bowl of Special K and that's somehow going to provide enough nutrition.
