Sport Ideal Weight- lil kids

Sport Fitness
I have an 12 year old son that is very fit and can perform physically.

BUT we pull ideal weight and he is almost 30% below ideal weight.

He is becomin quite interested in how things are advancing for Dad and the development of my body, AS A RESULT OF THINGS I AM LEARNING AND CHANGING FROM HERE.

Now, yes he is my son, but let me tell you something. this lil dude can go out in th heat and run, and climb, and pace run, pushup, pullup, and all that. He is not weak, is my point. BUT he is skinny.

12 yr old
4'11"
79lbs

here is his pick, by his choice.

questions-
drinking whey protein shake?
flax seed?
the oils, fish and flax?
weights?

OR- mom says, "Leave the lil sheeet alone!"

But he wants it, he asked, and I know there are young developing athletes here.

Somebody say somthing, even if it's just telling me this is innappropriate.

Don't leave the lil guy hangin man!

Haha. I'm surprised you don't know the answer. If you worried about your son's weight, why don't you get him to eat more? Makes sense right? If you really want to him to develop like an athlete, you should teach him the basics of how things are done and how to do them. Also, I heard this from many people and I agree with it, it is that you shouldn't get him highly involved in athletic training, if that is what you want for him. He is still a growing person. If you train him to hard, things could go wrong. Well, you know best for your child so I wish you the best of luck.

That sentence doesnt even make sense.

Whey is fine, its just milk. He should be intaking EFA's daily. They are great for brain development and thats important at any age.

If he wants to lift, hell let him lift. It is amazing that some parents (not talking about you) will let their kids participate in sports where they run for hours on end but dont let them lift. Why not? Its basically the same thing: increasing heart rate.

If my son wants to lift when hes that age, then he'll be lifting I guess.

thanks guys... hhahhahaaa

I also just considered whether i would post about your kid. not sure, but thinking maybe not. what did i expect?? hehehehee

I could care less what my lil kid does dude. At 18 he will be prepped and GONE! just ask him. Me and momma got stuff to do.

i am selfish enough, that i have no need to live thru him. hahahaha

Oh, and he took a 2:40 min mountain trail ride today,,
and he wants the shake, hence the question was nutritional

and he wanted to post his pics.

hahahaha the basics of how things are done-- sorry dude but you make me roll. here is a link-

OH, and because of his superior performance he's actually kind of a lil pain,,,, the curses of love.

the gym- holy cow! not yet- that's my space.

WOW!!! i got a lil wound up there... heck,, just aint the type to hold back.

Since he can "go out in th heat and run, and climb, and pace run, pushup, pullup, and all that" He's already buffer than me.

I got out in the heat, and I come back inside.

Unless someone is paying me to mow their lawn.

i don't think your son looks that underweight. I can see some ribs, but he's also 12, and hasn't really kicked off puberty to the point where he's putting on the muscle thickly over those ribs.

a whey shake, EFA's, and a simple daily multivitamin is all he should need.
make sure he's getting all his veggies. within a few years he'll likely fill out. kids RIP through calories as they grow.

thank you for saying something Malkore, TJ will apreciate that. He is so funny, he even had kind of a complex about nobody posting. Already super social like dad.

you do lots of research... what is "YOUR" recommendation on a vitamin for us?

He's about the size I was at his age. I remember when we wrestled in 6th grade gym class I was mad because I was 80 lbs and most of my friends were 90+ (I still beat most of them) LOL

Take any one-size-fits-all weight chart with a grain of salt (unless it's the BMI then throw it out the window, burn it and urinate on the ashes)

Whoever came up with that chart probably wouldn't expect a kid his age to be that wiry and muscular. If he were that weight with average 12 year-old-boy body composition he might look small

My kids are a lot younger, but my three year old has been kind of in the same boat although he has leveled out recently (75% height and 75% weight percentiles) he used to be 75 height and 40-50 weight, but the little punk has a six-pack. He's not your average chubby toddler

I agree. I don't think you need to worry about him right now. At 12, he still has a lot of growing to do. It should be a lot easier for him to put on muscle once he hits puberty and gets that surge of testosterone. He sounds like he's really fit as he is, and that's good. I don't think you need the push the weight gain thing on him yet. Wait a few years. If he hasn't filled out by the age of 17 or 18, then resort to the muscle building shakes and supplements.

the lil guy is awesome.. we went to play it again and we bought some dumbells, and when he was picking he didn't want fixed weight, he wanted handles and plates so he could add weight later and stuff.

As long as the dude is pushing I will provide, and when he gets rollign and wants to give up, I will push him a lil bit, we all need that. But this is all about him wanting to be with, and like me. I have enough esteem to call it what it is, and it is a responsibility and an honor for me.

BUT- the gym is still my get away place. I'm also selfish enough to want that.

proud dad.

the supplements- I have not talked to him about, and he hasn't brought it up again.

He was really grateful to read the posts. and he was amazed at how spread out we all are around the globe.
