Sport Ideal Calorie Intake?

Sport Fitness
I want to be able to give clients a 'calorie intake threshold' and an 'ideal calorie intake'.

So for example, a person's calorie intake threshold is 1500-2200 a day and their ideal amount is 1900 cals.

Therefore, if they were happy with their weight they would aim for 1900 a day for healthy maintenance, if they wanted to lose weight they could aim for btwn 1500 and 1900 depending on how much they want to lose but certainly no lower than 1500.

And if they were to go over 2200 then they would be risking weight gain.

So how would I go about working out their ideal amounts and their threshold?

Harris Benedict & WHO has formulas. There guides however and not necessarily "ideal".

Use this Resting Metabolic Rate/Daily Needs Calculator or any other that also has an activity factor in it. That's their "maintance" caloric intake, and then just take off 500 calories and that's their "fat loss" caloric intake. Each calculator is different, so look at the method on how it's calculated... some are just height and weight... You want to make sure that they have Height, Weight, Age, Gender, Activity Level, and some even have % Body Fat.

You have clients?

Well, not yet!

I am actually qualified as a PT but I dont want to start working yet bcos my course was not particularly good and there are enough rubbish trainers out there without me being one of them. So I am currently reading as many books and resources as I can (hence the 'Book List' thread).

Any advice?

My advice is to take another, better course. It sounds like you weren't properly educated, and clients will see this, especially if they've had time with a different PT.

I would love to take a better course but the one I did is the most high profile one in the UK!

For most people it is probably fine but I want to stand out so I am biding my time for now while I swot up.

Reduce calorie intake vs. calorie absorption

There are a few ways to lower your caloric intake. OBviously eating less, but if you're also taking weight loss pills like Adipex or other appetite suppressants, see info at , which make you feel full, and reduce calorie intake. However I would avoid those diet pills that claim to block actual fat absorption... I hear that they're "BS".

Ideal calorie intake

Caloric needs depend on age, gender, height, present weight, etc An intake between 1200 and 1400 calories per day is considered a low intake. This calorie level is just able to meet what are called basal metabolic needs, or the calorie needs to keep the heart beating and all the internal organs working. Calorie levels below 1200 should be avoided, because they may decrease metabolism, are usually hard to follow for any length of time.
