Hello all,

It has only been a couple of days but I am feeling really uplifted mainly due to the success stories on here.

I just wanted to ask if anyone thinks I am over doing the exercise & healthy eating?
I don't want to burn out but i never seem to know if i am over doing it until I'm to tired to do anything(in the past it has been after approx 2weeks in).

Yesterday I did 2hrs dancing (nintendo wii) half an hour on the treadmill and a 45min workout video.

I need to know if I'm overdoing it as i plan to do this at least 5times a week.
I had Porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and a good dinner(by good i mean meat and vegatables), I also snacked on fruit inbetween meals.

I have decided to not eat after 6pm or as close to it as possible.
I need to know if I am going about this the right way?

Any advice is much appreciated

Personally I think that's a lot of exercise. It's completely up to you, but I would recommend 30 min exercise 5 times per week. But it should be moderate/intense.

That seems a bit extreme for just starting out. If in the past you have burned yourself out after 2 weeks then maybe you should rethink your approach. It is good that you are changing your eating habits and exercising. But more than 3 hours of exercise a day? Unless you are entering a competition or training for an event that seems excessive.

At most you only need between 30 minutes to maybe 1 hour and thirty if you plan on incorporating strength, abs and cardio in the same day. Don't do this much if you will quit after 2 weeks. It is better to just do 30 minutes a day and stick with it for months or even years, then 3 hours for only 2-3 weeks then quitting.

I see nothing wrong with your diet intake, I hope you are incorporating alot of water into it. Just make sure you are not eating a whole lot of the sugary fruits to snack on, like grapes and the lot, in moderation maybe, or you can try apples, I don't like them, but I do find that if I eat 2 or 3 'very small ones' (that's the most I can stand) throughout the day, they tend to fill me up and I eat less.

Good luck, and remember, if you feel it is too much too fast, and you have had previous experience that tell you going down this road, you tend to get off on the 2 week corner, then change your course to a road you can take and maintain for the distance.

Remember, the race doesn't go to the swiftest, but to those that go the distance.:seeya:

Thank you both so much for the advice.

I have taken everything you have suggested on board and I am going to cut the exercise down.
I am not training for anything or entering a competition, I simply want a healthier lifestyle... these changes are for life, so I am happy to take it slowly to get lasting results, rather than rush and get quick results without keeping it up.
I am not after a quick fix or short term weight loss.

I appreciate the help/advice as feel I can really stick to it this time, especially with the support fom this forum.
Thanks again guys. :)

Sometimes we get psyched up and have all of this energy and we feel we can do it all and want to push it, but realistically we can't continue that pace. It's good to settle into an exercise routine (same time, same duration) and mix up the intensity of the workouts based on having more energy some days than others. Pushing yourself that hard every day, especially at first, can really wear you down. Consistency to your exercise schedule is the key to sticking with it.

Thanks BugDude!

I really think what you have said is exactly where I have gone wrong in the past (and if I hadn't joined this forum, could have been in that same position again) to much to soon, but I listened to the advice & i cut my exercise down.

I just wanted to update that I have lost 9lbs in my 1st week.

I am new to the forum so i was not sure where to post my update?
I would like to thank you all for the support and great advice.
Thank You :)

minimee,

Bless your heart for putting forth a good effort but you are going about it totally wrong.

You are severely over training and eating suboptimal food sources.

All my clients have a very high successrate by following smart, healthy , sound nutrition & training advice.

I would suggest 3 things:

1) Three, 45 minute- total body weight training sessions per week
2) Cut out all processed and refined foods
3) Eat 5 meals per day

Hi Wet Wolf,

I would like to thank you for the advice, I am on week 3 and ive lost 16lbs.

I feel that I am eating enough throughout the day I very rarely feel hungry.
Remember I weighed over 17stone, so when I am doing cardio it doesnt take much to get my heart racing(I am not running on the treadmill, just simply walking at pace).

I honestly feel I have got the right balance this time, I will keep you updated(if you like?) as I feel I can really keep this up, It fits in well with my lifestyle also.

Thanks again for the advice I appreciate the help.
