Hi my name is Karyn. I'm 18 years old and trying to reach my dream of becoming a ballerina. I am 135 lbs. I need to get down to 120 lbs. I'm 5'7... and have already lost some weight... but i seem to be stuck here at 135lbs. As i'm sure everyone knows... as a dancer you must be pretty thin. I don't want to be unhealthy but i do need to lose weight for dance.

Is there anyone that can help me?... I just can't firgure out how to lose these last 15 pounds. If anyone has any advice... on what to eat... exercises... anything... i would love to hear about it.

Thanks

karyn

Lets start with what you're currently doing first. List your diet and exercise plan in detail.

I have been eating special k cereal in the morning with 1 percent milk or non fat milk with a banana. For lunch i have something like a turkey sandwich with mustard on wheat bread with a piece of fruit. For dinner i try and stay away from pasta... but i am a pasta lover... : -/ i did buy the wheat pasta... and lower calorie sauce... should i just cut pasta out????... But other times i have chicken or fish... with veggies and/or rice. I try not to snack too much... but sometimes i have yogurt or pretzels for a snack... I drink a lot of water through out the day. I try and not eat anything after dinner..... so i usually don't eat anything after 7 at night. I always exercise after dinner too. I have a hard time getting up in the morning to exercise... but do you think it is better to exercise then instead of in the evening? For my exercising i jog on the treadmill for 10-15 mins.... and then i do about 200 cruches/ side crunches. I do inner and outer thigh lifts. I think most my weight is in my legs and bottom. I don't really know of any exercises for my legs or bottom. I will be starting to go to the gym though and swim 4-5 days a week.

What do you think?... How can i improve?

I want something that'll really work... i'm ready to do whatever i got to do to make these last 15 lbs go away....

as cheesy as it sounds, there is a great Tae Bo video for butts. The exercises on there are AMAZING lol, I have never been able to do more than like half of them at one time cause my butt gets sooo sore.

I would like to see exact caloric amounts, but this doesn't seem to be enough food or enough protein. Also the food choices themselves are not great ones.

You need a sound routine. I little of this and that isn't going to do the job, and the movements you are choosing are just going to strain your body. Also if you want to be a dancer you need to work on that aspect of your body and balance. Dancing if very specific, and training for such takes a lot of hard work, but smart training. Have you ever been coached in your dancing? Is that an option for you?

Basically there is a difference between looking like a ballerina and moving like one. Which one isn't for you?

i have been dancing since i was 3 years old. I've trained with virginia school of the arts. Uraban ballet theater in nyc. Blue lake fine arts... all on scholarship. I've been currently dancing with delaware dance company. I have been using the advice my teachers and directors have given me. They don't think i am fat... by any means... with out dance i am perfect weight for my height at 5'7... but as for a dancer... they said it wouldn't hurt to loss another 10- 15 lbs.... they gave me some foods to eat... but it hasn't been working lately so... that is why i came on here for advice.... what kinds of foods should i be eating.... i haven't been keeping track of my calorie intake... i plan on doing so... when i begin a new diet and exercise plan tomorrow.... but how many calories should i be eating? what foods will help?... what exercises can i do to lose it in my thighs....?

help me please

Im not a professional but I would increase the cardio to 1 houre a day and stop the muscle training such as crunches.

No this is not what you want to do.

What you are asking for is a complete plan, we can't give you that over a message board. Not in a mean way its just there are to many variables at play here. Did you read the nutrition article? What are the foods they told you to eat?

You need a solid resistance/balance program that is tailored towards your goals as a dancer. You get plenty of aerobic training I am sure with your studies. What you are going to need more of is a smart diet and resistance work. You might want to think about looking into a trainer since your goals are involved with a profession.
