i threw out my left lat:(

hey guys. i pulled my left lat out deadlifting. it wasnt really a one time OUCH THAT HURT thing. i started to feel pain after the workout. it isnt THAT bad but it feels still and is aching a little bit. i cant bend all the way to my right or stretch out my left lat. it hurts when i row.

so any advice on how to ice/heat it? what should i do/eat??? thanks so much for the help

Ice it, rest it, stretch it.

Sorry to hear that man, I know what you mean by getting the pain after the workout. It's not cool. :D

wups i was icing it for like 30+ minutes a day in 1 sitting at night.

anyway, update: its feeling much better now. no more aching when trying to get comfortable. i am still sure im not 100%. it has been 6 days. i plan on taking a couple more days off to rest it completely. i hate taking chances when it comes to injuries.

thanks for the help, woodt!!! :D

This is a good lat stretch. You can also do it grabbing with your hand the opposite way as well. Play with how low you go and hand position. You will feel a difference in the amount of stretch. Make sure that it is an easy stretch, not a pulling your arm out stretch. :D

Swimming is great. Don't do anything too aggressive, basic breast stroke or side stroke, use this to work your range of motion. Reach your hands out.

You can stretch in the pool as well.

when i click on that, it brings me to a wierd site...i dont see anything.

thanks for the advice for swimming. i will do some light swimming tonight trying to get loose. but if it starts to hurt at all should i stop? and would sitting in a hot spa/bath help relax the muscle or is it just temporary relief?

The link should just go to a picture, it works for me.????

Try this one.

but if it starts to hurt at all should i stop?

The goal is to start moving and get more blood flowing to the area. This will help the healing process. You should not be going hard enough to cause much pain. May be sore just going through the range of motion though.

and would sitting in a hot spa/bath help relax the muscle or is it just temporary relief?

It will help, you can stretch in there too. I am a huge fan of the hot tub. If you have access you can go from a hot tub to a cool pool. Couple min in each. Back and forth 5X or so.

You should feel pretty good after all of that.

:D thanks georgen! i swam last night and it felt really good.
thanks for the link, that one works. great advice man i owe you one

it seems like my left lat is almost healed now. its wierd...sometimes it hurts when i do certain things and sometimes it doesnt. like when i take a deeeep breath, sometime it feels wierd/bad. but the wierd pressure/discomfort has moved more to my middle back/middle left back. :/ it moved.

i think the swimming is helping. im trying not to be too aggressive but i try to challenge myself at the same time. il have to remember to keep intensity low. it has been 1 week and 3.5 days so far. i am really hoping it can be feeling better as soon as possible. diet has been as clean as it has ever been.

i did some light rehab weight training 6/1/07.
felt pretty good. i hit legs hard with
3x13 db lunges
then i just did some light compounds
mil press
pendlay rows
pushups.
didnt do pullups, the back isnt ready yet.
swam for 10 mins.

felt very good. im almost back guys!!!
and yea im kinda treating this as my journal :D

i thought i was almost healed. today i did the hardest set of bulgarian squats ever. i think that agrivated it b/c i was holding heavy dbs... wtf
this sucks. frustrated and pissed, i will just have to wait longer and swim and keep eating good. i just have to be patient and trust god.

cant believe how long its taking to heal. its my fault. every time i go to do a 'rehab' lifting session, i get carried away and begin to put on too much weight and start pushing myself too hard. i think its just getting more aggrivated. i have to dicipline myself to take it easy and just let this thing heal. its been way too long since i got a proper workout.
from now on, the only thing i can do with heavy weights is squats. and im pretty pissed so i can bet my a$$ i will be squatting hard. this is really depressing
