i really would be grateful of some help

hi there, i dont really know where to start with this but i guess i am just after a bit of advice.
I will start with my stats
i am only 5ft and am normally about 103 lbs. To remain at this weight i really have to watch what i eat and i dont look particularly slim at 103lbs. I have read a few posts and am beginning to think that my body is in stravation mode though when i increase my calories i just seem to put on more weight still. I generally eat very little during the day - i prob only reach about 300 calories up until dinner time and then i still eat very little in the evening but then crave chocolate and sweets.....i was about to say that i binge on them but typically i might eat 400 calories worth of choc so i still dont think i am over doing it on the calorie front. I just love sweets and choc and need to know that i can have the odd bit

now, i got engaged a few months ago and the wedding is at the end of august. two months ago i joined a gym and was spinning almost every day for 45mins. I found that it made me eat more so i upped my calaorie intake (which i thought would take my body out of stravation mode if thats was what had been happening) and i didnt pig out i just ate a bit more normally and had a healthier attitude to my food. whilst i noticeably developed muscle , my clothes started feeling much tighter around the legs (which i think was muscle) but also the stomach - my stomach actually looked fatter and i think that my eating more made my put on some fat as well as the extra muscle gained from exercising. My stomach is normally flat when i have been 101lbs etc (but that is normally if i am miserable in my personal life or stressed and not eating) my weight went up 3lb which is quite a bit for someon of my height but still i carried on with the exercise as it was allowing me to eat more so i was happier and i know that everyone says muscle weighs more than fat. however i did find it hard putting on weight when the aim of all this was to lose it. I then aggravated an old back condiiton thru spinning and as a result havent been able to exercise or do anything for 3 weeks. this has torn me apart as my wedding is in 10 weeks and i have a dress fitting on saturday. Prior to hurting my back i had a one to one with my instructor at the gym who added some exercises to my cardio work (tricep dips, push ups, sit ups etc ) i am ok at doing all of these and used to do lots of weigfhts a few years ago. I told him that i wanted to lose some bulk, slim down and look toned and the weights added to my regime were a result of my telling him this.

admittedly i didnt give it a proper go as i hurt my back a week after adding these exercises to my cardio but having been to physio i am now allowed back to the gym - hooray and plan to go for the first time on saturday. i am so happy that i can go back as my weight has been permanently stuck at 4-5lb higher then when i first decided to make a concerted effort to go to the gym and lose weight and tone for the wedding. i am now 107lb :(

My physio has shown me how to do squats and lunges etc so that i dont aggravate my condition but what i now need is some advice if you guys dont mind as to how i can lose weight (my mum is toned, musecly and less heavy than i am, but my height, so i know it can be done) and tone - all in 10 weeks.

I plan on going to the gym almost every day between now and the wedding and doing the weight training as well and will do whatever i need to do and eat in order to be slimmer and look better than when i started this whole thing. If someone could let me know whether i should be doing more weight training, eating more carbs (the only carbs i have are in the form of the odd sweet/choc really - i knwo thats not good - i will come off them compeltely if i need to!) then i would really appreciate it. i cant afford to get it wrong at this stage and put on weight before the wedding as that would really mess my head up

i will follow whatever i am told to do to the letter if it will work i just need to know that i wont suddenly put on loads of weight as that is what has happened whenever i do more exercise and eat more to get away from stravation mode

thanks so much for reading and for any advice you might give

hey girl welcome to the forum!!

I just have a quick question how old are you?
and do you know what your body fat % is at all?

also do you have any kids i.e. have you ever been preggers.

hiya
i am 29 - body fat is 20-21% at the mo 9according to tanita scales but dont think its v reliable)
no never been pregnant

okay well, why don't you start with a posting of what you normally eat a day and also your normal activity routine and we'll be able to point out some new things for ya!

thanks so much
yesterday 3 litres of water
no breakfast
lunch - sald with no dressing (lots of vegetables etc)
dinner - salad with olive oil dressing, little bit of smoked salmon, small tin of tuna and some prawns and some pureed apple for ddessert
i then ended up eating about 400 calories worth of yoghurt coates nuts and rasisins as had a craving

didnt do any exercise as am not allowed back at the gym until saturday

cm, first of all, welcome to the forum. Let me give you a couple of tips, if ya don't mind. First, you need to eat something for breakfast. 2) You need to eat at least 5 meals a day which include a protein and a carb (smaller meals) 3) Exercise (weights and cardio) which I see you will be doing. But you definitely need to eat more. You're starving yourself.

thanks - well i have done a calorie counter thing and it says i should e on 1600 to maintain and i understand that you need to take 500 cals off a day to lose 1lb a week. is 1100 too low?
also does carbs mean fruit and veg or does it have to be bread, pasta etc

i HATE those calorie counters...screw those things excuse me but they discourage me EVERY time I think I'm doing good on my plan...online calculators are nonsense!

neway,

your eating.....well it looks like what I used to do to myself !

You deny yourself carbs all day long and then your body in an attempt to save itself from deteriorating .. is making you eat the sweets and chocolate for the carbs, cals, and fat. But what you end up doing is chocking your body full of it too much at one time which will end up making you gain weight. Your body is holding onto any amount of anything you put in it right now...especially fat !

You can't continue to do this or you'll start to find yourself more and more unhappy and unealthy . so there is just something for you to think on. ;)

But I'm totally here to help if I can , you should eat something for breakfast that includes a protein and carb b/c it evens out your blood sugar and helps digestion go a bit slower..that way you aren't as hungry shortly after you ate pure carbs . you should be hungry about every 2 to 3 hours if you do this correctly and then you have another small meal of protein and carb combo. and then 2 to 3 hours later repeat this.. but give it some variety.. Your body doesn't like to have yogurt for every meal and you are going to make your metabolism give up and go to sleep . Don't thin kthat exercising yourself and then eating nothing or close to nothing is going to make you lose weight or even keep you from gaining....in fact it is going to make you retain every ounce of water possible and every ounce of fat possible. this is starvation mode.

Please begin a plan and refer to the one carb.one protein form of meal combination and 2-3 hours apart. Have your breakfast within one hour of waking up even if you aren't hungry tomorrow morn, do it anyway.

and listen to some other advice on here too-best wishes!

Well if I was you I would not go down to 1100 cals a day. Do you really think you need to lose weight ? I believe once you start training and eating properly, and see your body transforming, you'll think twice about losing weight. I realize you are only 5' tall, but I don't think 103 lbs is too much for ya. Once you start training again and add muscle while losing a bit of bodyfat, I think you may still be in the same weight range you are at now, but look a lot different. And yes, fruits and veggies are carbs. Better off to stay away from bread, unless it is whole grain. Whole wheat pasta is also better for ya than regular pasta. Oatmeal and brown rice are also excellent carbs. So try to get your cals up to 1600 and get your training going when you can and I think you'll be pleased with the results as long as you do it consistently. Remember, be patient, you won't change overnight. We will be here to support and encourage you.

thank you both so much
jpc - im not 103lbs anymore - thats what i used to be and thats what i would love to be again
jaymie i really appreciate your advice - maybe i have got a problem but becuase i dont lookskinny i have never thought that i have. i seem to have so little control at night time its ridiculous but am angelic all day - i agree that it makes sense that my body is craving the food and thats why i keep pigging out on choc and seem dependent on it
can you give me an idea of what i should eat for breakfast - can i have a bowl of all bran - i suppose i am just scared off eating calories when i am not hungry (ie in the morning) and then finding that my daily intake of cals has increased and i am putting on even more weight but i suppose i just need to put my faith in what you and other people are saying and try to eat more during the day - carbs plus protein and do my exercise as well.
if i eat accodring to what you have said and also spin almost every day do you think i will look slimmer and smaller or do i also need to do resistance training and how often should i do this??
thanks

how about doing this:

stay away from the scale and internet calculators for 2 weeks minimum, start eating breakfast tomorrow morning all-bran is fine ! But don't use whole milk--if you can use skim or if you like soy? but I can't stand that crap...lol, anyway, with the cereal (regular serving not entire bowl ) have like 4 egg WHITES with it. that's the protein or you can have lik .5 cup FF cottage cheese or lowfat if you are pressed for time. or you can hard boil the eggs at night and just discard the yolk in the morn and eat like 2 to 4 of them if you can.

Stay away from the chocolate for the rest of this week and focus on your diet making it more nutritious. Chocolate is like the worst thing to be e ating right before you go to bed....

sorry to be a real pain but is a regular bowl like on 30g as that looks like hardly anything but is that regular???
what about lunch and supper - can i keep on with my salads for lunch with no dressing and then have fish or something in the evening - should i have carbs in the evening or steer clear like i have been (bar chocolate! which i promise i am going to try and avoid!)

Hi cm,i am a bit late, but welcome aborad
i am 103 and i still feel i am overweight beacsue of my height,i would like to be at100lbs and thats what i am working on
i think if u eat loads of carb and not proteins in the required amount u gain fats not muscels
jpc has given u very good tips,
here are my two cents,
eat 4/5 smaller meals
eat some proteins for breakfast like eggs sausages etc etc
then snack on some fruit(all fruits most of vegetable and bread ,rice, pasta, refined sugars are carbs)
eat some cheese with your meals, can be non fat..and snack on olives , peanuts or any nuts

it will be a high protein mealplan for u ,and iy upps your calorie intake plus,if u workout well it turns into muscles not fat

thanks slim sadie - think i just need to get out of the mentality that eating more calories will make me fatter and trust you guys and give it a go.
so hard to do when i keep looking in the mirror and seeing myself getting fatter on hardly any cals
how tall are you?

have u ever thought that if low calorie could make u thin..how come cows are this huge?:Dj/k

i am 5 2`,62 inches that is

i did the same mistake u did,,and lost 6kgs and then stall!!full stop since my body was used to eating low calorie mostly boiled non fat kind of thing, and out of frustration i indulged myself in foods that i had been depriving myself of,like pasta, breads, pizzas and cold drinks, and gained even more than before, and every bite i ate my body told me oh this little piece wont hurt much (urgh)then one day i stumbled to a website its an atkins diet support group, and to my surprise ppl on that board had lost upto 150lbs and more eating lavish food while i was starving myself of the pleasures of eatig, just because i was scared of calories..all i did is purchased atkins book
now i have lost 35 plus lbs and i eat high calorie but low carb food
(i am not reccomending u atkins diet,i am just telling u what happened to me,choice is yours)
then my major concered was that i had been eating low calorie diet for long,i was afraid to gain weight eating high fat low carb meal
but trust me in two week i lost 7lbs,and now i am skiny(though i feel overweight, but thats just me) and happier than ever

so my point is calories are just calories, but it is more important that where these calories are coming from???
good luck!

wow - you sound XEACTLY like me! i ended up doing atkins and lost loads of weight but then wondered why i couldnt lose the same amount doing a more normal diet that allowed you to have fruit. the odd sweet etc
i also wasnt exercising when i did atkins but now becuase i am going to the gym loads i thought it wasnt wise to do that and atkins but maybe i will just go back to it as that is what works for me. i can eat loads and stay much slimmer with atkins
so are you still on atkins or do you just not eat bread, pasta etc now but do eat fruit?

Yes atkins is the best way of eating IMHO,if u stick to eat u are healthy ,and light for good..
i am stilll on atkins i started last sept 26,and now i am on my goal weight and now taking care of body fat and firming up a bit
it is easier to loose weight, but very hard to keep on goal weight and get in shape:S
i am not eating fruits yet ,since i am back on induction..but as i move i add them in my diet.
