Well forum here's my problem. I'm 17 years old 6ft and 270 pounds. As you can see I am extremely over weight. I feel so horrible because I'm so heavy. That I have missed out on all of my years in high school. I never had a date, girlfreind or been to a dance. I feel like I can't even dress the way I would like to. So after a week of contemplating trying to diet again I decided to give it a good start by starting today and joining a forum. My main goal is to lose enough weight by late july to look alright at the beach in hawaii. I want to drop at least 40pounds by then. I do no sports or any after school activities so I can work out a lot. My main problem is I don't want my parents to know I am trying another diet, because I already gave up so many times.

What I need help is finding a diet that will help me reach those goals, if someone could let me know which worked for them that would be great. (Maybe atkins?) Today since I don't know what I'm going to start tomm. I will just eat less today, and tomm. Start a full diet plan.

Thanks,
Zin

You are looking at things the wrong way. You don't need a diet 'plan'. You need to make the changes in the way you eat that will last a lifetime. Plans make you expect fast results and easy living. Losing weight is neither.

First, read the various stickies on the thread cause it is full of great information. Also, start a diary on the forum, especially make it a food diary for at least a week. You need to have an honest view of what you are eating everyday. Include portions and calories if you can. This way, in one week you can look back and see what needs to change.

Weight lose comes down to calories in vs calories out. It's not about cutting out carbs or fats. It's not about stacking protien to the sky. It's about knowledge and application of that knowledge.

We are all in the same boat. We want to help so ask anything and everything. There are some really knowledgeable people here along with really good souls.

Alright I understand that, but why is it that normal weight people don't have that mindset or eating habits? It's not like all slim people think about eating healthy or portions. Infact most eat horribly
? But stay slim?

Cause they are burning more calories than you eat. I could eat 2000 calories of candy but since I need around 3000 to maintain my weight, I'll lose weight. I won't feel good abd it's a bad idea but it's true.

We also learn poor eating habits growing up and it's hard to break the habit.

I'd agree with Jericho, stop thinking diet. That's a temporary state that many have a hard time sticking with, and even if you do manage to white knuckle your way through it, once you lose all the weight you want, then what? Back to double cheeseburgers and cheese fries? It happens to many, and the weight goes right back on even faster and you're even more frustrated than you were to begin with. From your statement about not wanting your parents to know, you already have negativity associated with dieting.

Start today eating healthier, drop the junk, and start moving in some manner. Walking is better than nothing, you don't have to set the world on fire, just get moving. Aside from obviously being better for you, in general healthy whole foods like fruits, veggies and lean meats are lower in calories and you can eat plenty and stay within your daily caloric limits. You don't have to starve yourself.

It's easy for some people to stay slim. Unfortunately for you, me and many others here, it doesn't work that way for us so we have to put more effort and sacrifice into it. Trust me when I say I would ALWAYS rather have some cheddar cheese cracker and squirt cheese in a can than an apple, but history says it doesn't work for me, so 9.9/10 times I choose the apple.

I know it may seem like it won't ever happen to YOU, but read the stickies and read some of the stories here, many have done exactly what you want to do and more.

Good luck!!!!!

Just the luck of the draw. You can't worry about that. You have to play the cards you are dealt.

We are all in the same boat.

Man, I feel sorry for our boat.
