I need to stop thinking and start acting

For years now i have been saying my new years resolution is to lost weight, i am 17 years old and binge on junk food about 3 nights a week, i weight around 190 pounds and want to lose some weight (not sure how much) so i can feel better about myself, i am going to be contacting my local gym about a membership but does anyone have any advice and what i should do? i have never been the gym in my life so i am quite nervous and i have never been on a diet so dont know were to go there. tips please :blush5:
 
read around the exercise and nutrition forums - especially the stickied threads - you'll get lots of useful information...

And don't go ona 'diet' - they do not work - think lifestyle change..

I agree with the above poster - don't go on a "diet," change your lifestyle, eat smaller portions, eat healthier food. I've known so many people who've made the mistake of committing to expensive diet programs only to find themselves in the same place as when they started.
 
Step one accomplished, you are here :O)

Start slow, ease your way into portion control. I started a journal when I first admitted to defeat with food. After a while, I stopped counting calories and writing in my journal because I learned to change my habits. Now, it's like brushing my teeth. I know I have to brush and floss.. I know I can only eat a couple cookies a week instead of the whole bag. Compromise and drink lots of water!!
