I need to lose exactly 100 pounds- It feels like I'm staring up at a mountain top

I'm about 290, my ideal fit weight is 190- I was 190 in college, but let myself go...I've yo-yoed all my life- Id gain 20- pounds, then lose 10- I'd gain 50, then lose 70........

I hope I can lose my 100 pounds- but I swear, it feels like I'm at the base of Mt Everest looking up.....100 pounds seems so far off in the distance...

Any advice on how not to be scared off on tackling such a monumental task?

I've tried the starvation diet, and it doesn't work....

I am physically active, hit the gym a couple times a week (I used the elliptical machine and treadmill for 1/2 hour each session) , and walk everywhere- but my weight seems frozen at around 290.

i'd advise looking into diaries of people who are around the same weight as you and try to keep each other motivated and comparing workouts/eating habits, plus also seeing what kept others motivated, ie people who've lost loads of weight.

i'm also trying to loose weight and taking everyday as it comes. the one thing i've told myself is no matter what i need to keep working out. i find when i do my workouts it helps keep my eating habits a bit more under control, otherwise everything tends to go belly up lol!

but at the end of the day you gotta find what works for YOU...and if at first you don't succeed, get back up and try again and again. k, all the best.

How do you eat? Good/Bad? Or maybe you need to change your exercise habits up.

I need to lose around the same amount too. Atleast it is easier for guys to lose the weight rather than girl.....guys are lucky.lol I tell my fiancée all the time that I am jealous of him because he can eat, but never gains weight....he sticks at 185.

But GOOD LUCK on your journey....I will need it myself too.

One thing you may want to think about changing is the amount of fat you eat. I recently read a book that helped me realize I was eating way too much fat and that it was what was keeping me from losing weight. [spam removed]

Also I recommend you eat three meals at least a day - starving the body is one thing that keeps us from losing weight. When the body jumps into starvation mode it thinks - Oh no I'm not gonna get any more food? What do I do? And so the way it responds is like how people respond in a drought - save up as much water as we can - but the body saves up fat because that's what it will need for the emergency. And that's what starving the body does - it signals to it that there's an emergency and it better store as much fat as possible to make it through. If you simply eat balanced meals regularly the body gets "trained" into thinking - it's okay I'm gonna get another meal in a few hours I don't have to store all this fat.

A balanced meal is something as simple as:

A bowl of cereal with fruit
A sandwich and a salad
A piece of chicken, rice, veggies

Good luck!

Sincerely,

The key to weight loss is getting the right amount of protein and nutrients into your diet, muscle is the only thing that burns calories and fat in your body and without protein you cant sustain your muscle. thats why people tend to yo yo diet as when they diet they actually lose muscle so there isn't anything there to keep burning off the body fat. I am a weight loss coach and have seen this many many times. A good balance of the right amount of portein, carbs and nutrients is the only way to go!!!

The first thing that you want to do is set lots of little milestones not one big enormous one... I wrote about my attitude to milestones here

I honestly couldnt have faced doing what I did if I had looked at the big picture... My before/after pictures are also over there - if they may inspire you.

You need to eat properly - not starving yourself. I certainly do not starve myself now in maintenance. Exercise (as you are doing) is also a good move.

You need to read up about nutrition and set proper nutritional targets for yourself.

Even now in maintenance - I have 3 meals a day - two of which are cooked. Yesterdays cooked meals were

3 egg omelette containing stir fried peppers & onion with can baked beans

3 pork loin steaks with can baked beans

I happen to love baked beans (low sugar/low sodium) but I do eat other veg. It was just the way that yesterday worked out. My point is - I weigh a lot less than you and do not starve myself...
