Weight loss
Hi Tinkerbell
I have long experience in alternative medicine, and I have recently written a book on weight loss.
My input, for what it is worth, is that you can do four things:
1. Cut starch (potatoes, rice, bread, pasta) to a minimum ( preferably eliminate).
2. Eat more lean protein plus plenty of salads and vegetables
3. Spread your meals over more, smaller meals - eg 4 meals a day
4. For exericise - do interval training 3 time a week.
Interval training? The expert on this in my mind is Al Sears (Google him). Also called "High intensity aerobic exercise", interval training actually burns fat: whereas aerobic exercise clearly does not - if you check out the studies.
Also, interval training is quicker than aerobic. So, not only does aerobic take longer, is also doesn't work. LOL.
Of course, any exercise is good for general health: but if you want to lose weight you need high intensity aerobic exercise. What is this?
You really hammer it on any aerobic exercise for 30 seconds, then jog along at moderate level for 2 minutes, then another 30 seconds intensive effort. Repeat for 10 minutes. 3 times a week. This burns fat: regular aerobic does not.
Well, to be more precise, it does: but then you body puts the fat back on again because it thinks you need the fat stores to burn for future exericse. LOL
The proof is there if you look out the studies.
Interval training uses up your carb stores, then while you 'tick over', the carbs stores are replenished from your fat. So your fat slowly goes. I say slowly - but over 3 months that will be substantial.
Hope this helps.

PS Of course, you should only introduce changes gradually - both as regards changing your diet and introducing a new type of exercise. Interval training - work up to it over a few weeks. Also, if you are unfit or are undergoing medical treatment, check with your health adviser first.
