I need help!

I'm not sure if this is in the righ area...

Alright, first of all, hello everyone. My name is Wesley, I'm 14 (soon 15), around 5'10 or so and about 195 pounds.

Today is August 22nd, I ran for 30 minutes today and it felt GREAT afterwards. I'm really un happy with my body and appearance and am embarrassed to say that I weight 195 pounds. I wouldn't be so bad if it were all muscle and not fat, however that is not the case.

I own a treadmill and a Barbell at home. My question is, what is the best, fastest and healthiest way to lose the fat and gain muscle? I rarely eat breakfast (I know I should) but if I'm not in school I wake up at like 11:00 and I feel that it's to late to have anything and I'm not hungry at that time anyway. And if I'm in school, I'm in a rush to get ready (I wake up at 6:00AM). I really want to try and eat breakfast, but I'm not sure how well it will work out.

My meals are really weird. I basically eat when I'm hungry I have no shedual. I eat when I want, and I eat infront of the TV.

ONE healthy habit I have is that 95% of what I drink i water. I drink about 1.5 - 2 liters a day. If I'm not drinking water it's orange or apple juice. But I don't touch softdrinks.

What I want to achieve, is not some much lose WEIGHT, as much as lose FAT. So I might gain weight. I really want to trim my legs, butt, thighs, stomach, arms, upper body. Basically everything.

In the summer, I don't have fun because I'm ashamed to take of my shirt, I want to be in great shape by summer 2007. So that gives me 10 months! I think with your help and me really wanting this, I can do it! I want to be able to see abs and definition. I want to be able to fit into my brothers cloths, I don't want to worry about what people think about me.

So please give me all the help you can.

Thanks

-Wes

PS. Also, if i succeed in this, will I have lose skin everywhere?

I'm not wise enough to comment on the other stuff, but as to this...you don't weigh nearly enough to worry about this. You're young, and not that big, you're skin hasn't stretched that much. It is elastic enough to shrink down with you.

I would suggest that you continue to do cardio (like the running) a few times a week, and to do some strength training to offset that. Work all the muscles. Watch what you're eating, make sure you're doing it properly (someone else will have to help you with that, I'm not an expert!). Whatever fat you need to lose will come off, and your muscles will tone up.

Good luck! And start a diary in that section if you haven't already; it helps a lot!

Hi Wesley!

I don't really know much about the best ways to lose weight.

But i just wanted to say good luck, and don't give up!! You're already on the right track with the running, and it's great that you have a realistic goal (10 months).

So once again, GOOD LUCK! You can do it!

Alright thanks for the comments and answers. I have a few more question.

Right no, I have lines under my "man boobs" and a large line over my stomach, from sitting. If I reach my goal, will these lines go away quickly?

I tend to have a problem eating quiet late. What should I do about that? Becuase I know it's bad.

Is it okay to run EVERYDAY or is it better to like, run 1 day, lift weights, do seomthing else, rest, run... What should I be doing on what day?

Thanks.

I'll let someone answer your other questions, but as to the eating late...either go to bed or distract yourself! Keep your hands and mind busy so your not mindlessly snacking. I keep chugging my water, and I read or whatever. Get up and walk around. Leave giant signs around saying "NO FOOD AFTER 8pm!" Do whatever it takes!

If you are seriously hungry, then have a healthy snack. But make sure you are not just sitting there grazing.:) And good luck!

The lines will go, I used to have the same due to sitting at the computer for extended periods of time. After losing weight, they have completely gone.
When you first start to exercise it does feel great and it is tempting to run every day, but if you do you will get tired very quickly and might cause yourself an injury. One of two nights off a week and on the other days maybe some non-intensive exercise would be good. I'd recommend switching between cycling, running and swimming aswell as weights to get toned, the main thing that will put you off exercise is boredom so make sure you keep it interesting with different distances/routes etc. Mp3 player always helps.

I'm not really well-read about this, I'm just trying to say what I know from experience.

Wes,

Good for you for taking action to lead a more healthy lifestyle. One thing to keep in mind if you want to lose weight is to do it "low and slow", which means don't try to lose too much too fast. That's why fad diets don't work, but doing cardio, lifting, and improving your diet will.

For great advice about different workouts and nutrition check out .

Take care and stick with it!

Hi Wes,

From your post I'd guess the key thing to get sorted is what you eat. Try keeping a food diary for a week (taking a picture of everything you eat with a camera phone can make it easy). Small changes can make a huge difference over the course of a year - one extra chocolate chip muffin/day adds as much as 25lbs, one less and...you get the picture!

Your target intake is around 2400 calories/day - anymore than this and your weight can only go up. 300 calories/day less than this loses you about 1lb/week - you can create such a deficit either by eating less or through exercise (or some combination of the two).

Combine a healthy diet with a decent cardio and weights program and given you are still growing you can easily achieve your goals - random eating, junk food or just too much food will keep you from achieving them.

On specifics:
- don't skip breakfast!
- set a series of small goals (lose 5lbs, run 3/4 time week, start doing weights etc) and reward yourself when you meet them.
- find an exercise you enjoy doing for it's own sake rather than doing it just to lose weight, I could never stick to a treadmill but I love cycling (for example).
- try to become more comfortable with your body (it's the only one you'll ever get!) - everyone is paranoid about some aspect of themselves and it's just plain dumb to waste a summer indoors just because you're worried what others might think.

All the best!

Chris
