I am 278lbs, was 340 last year, started diet and excercise again last week. We walk at least 30 miles per week but up to 50 miles total. I work as an apartment cleaner 5 days a week, 7 hours a day. I weighed 286 last week before starting this week & I am now 278, which is 1lb heavier then Monday, I eat 2000 calories a day or less and not really any junk food. How have a gained a pound this week and lost 9lbs last week.... Its really discouraging.
 
Relax! Your weight fluctuates during the day... as much as 2-5 lbs, so don't ever stress about small gains if you know you're doing the right thing... it is most likely attributable to water retention (time of the month or salty foods - sorry, don't know if you're male/female :) )

So focus on the general downward trend of your weight, and stick to your daily routines that will make this work for you.
 
try weighing yourself every month instead of every week, it might give you a more accurate picture of your weight loss trend
 
the scale is clearly not a good motivator for you - stop using it -

get yourself a tape measure or a piece of string and measure your waist/hips/bust/ anything else.. and keep track every 2 weeks..

l educate yourself on healthy nutrition and exercise.. start reading and building new habits you can use for the rest of your life
