I need a makeover

My weight loss journey isn't over, I still need to lose a few more kilo's and build some muscle to tighten up.

However, I want to get a new haircut and some new clothes to congratulate myself. I haven't really bought any new clothes since my weight loss, so some things are really loose. As for my hair, it hasn't been cut since February and even then it wasn't a significant amount of hair.

I want something relatively short, like a fringe or something. I feel since I've lost weight, it's sort've like the hair looks even longer on me now that I'm skinnier? I'm scared (like what usually happens) if I go to a hairdresser they will screw it up. So any suggestions on what kind of hairstyle to get? Any pictures to show?

Here's a picture of me recently with longish hair. I'm the guy in the middle. I was thinking a similar style like the two kids to the side of me?

And ignore the beer in my hand. It's non-alcoholic and calorie-free, I swear. Haha!

you have a high forehead so bangs/fringe can either make it look bigger or smaller... it really depends on the cut...

there are websites (I think clairol.com is one) that have virtual hairstyle things that youc an put a picture of your face in... (with your hair pulled back) and try on different styles -it's generalyl geared for women but they might have men's styles as well/

you're cute...

I'm not picky when it comes to men's hair.. I hate that look where the 20 hairs at the front stick up - or the really short fringey stuff so it sticks up... I don't like a l ot of product on hair either.

Crew cuts are hot because it's fun to just rub the head (yes, that sounded really dirty -but hey -there are females who like it)
floppy hair is fun to because it begs to be touched.

Talk to the stylist about what works best for your face... as your face has changed shape with the weight you've lost... tell him/her what your needs are (ie do you want to spend time on it regularly... or do youw ant wash and go..)

I think you should keep you're hair longish but maybe a bit off and more messy looking, a fringe of some sort would be good I think :)

as for clothes... I know you're young.. but please oh please oh please.. wear clothes that fit... replacing a wardrobe gets expensive... but tailors can help with the clothes you have... Oversized clothes just look sloppy and make you look bigger...

Mal: Yeah I know my forehead, mainly the reason why I want a fringe (bangs?) again. I tried that website and the mens selection wasn't that great, but I did look a bit funny with some girls hair. I think talking to the stylist is a good suggestion, I need to work out which one to go to.

And are you commenting on my big jacket? Haha. Yeah, I'm going shopping this week/next week with a chick friend of mine. Thing is if I'm 71kg and I get clothes to fit me, wouldn't they be losoe again if I'm like 65kg-66kg? :D

Hmmm, tailor, good idea, there is some clothes I want to keep.

Nats:
Do you have any pics of your idea haha? :)

there might be other websites that are more specific to mens hair.

What you could do is go thru some magazines - and pick out pictures of styles that you like.... it can be a model in an ad for floor covering -it's the hair style you like that counts.. then bring them in to the stylist for an opinion.

(and i know this is a total stereotype - but with all my years of hair experience and bad haircuts -the gayer the stylist the better and more honest wth you they will be -if you show them a style you like -they tend to not hold back and will tell you if it will or won't work... :D

Well I think I'll put some photos I want on my phone, like the photo above of what my friends have. I might put a photo of a screwed up haircut that I DON'T want and maybe even this photo in Jan 1, although this is when I first started my weight loss journey, I liked the shape of this hair, I just want more of a fuller/shorter fringe:

Oh Mal, you're helpful in many ways. :D

Oh, I used to have a gay hairdresser but I haven't been to him for awhile. He wasn't very honest about what suited me and just went with whatever, so I think I'll stick to my university location options.

that's a little too harry potterish for my tastes -- but you're young so you can pull it off i'm sure :)

Haha, are you talking about my friends in the first picture or my friend in the second picture who often used to get called "Harry Potter" at school? :)

The magazines suggest to women that if you are looking for a new stylist - you should ask women who's hair that you like... who their stylist is... (i couldnever that's far too girlie for me ) I'm not quite sure guys can get away with that - but.. eh - .. :D

I like the friends hair in the second pic, the harry potterish one :D very geek chic lol, that's a very cool look :p

I would say a makeover would be awesome. I say go ahead and try the hair that you think you want. I bet it will look good, but perhaps check with the stylist for sure, and be sure to bring pics of the idea your going for so your both on the same pageish... Having losta good deal of weight, taking some of the extra hair off I think will be really nice for you. As far as clothes, perhaps some new jeans that are a slimmer fit? Or some new shirts that aren't super tight but do show off your newer shape? Wear what you want, you've lost the weight and done the hard work so now is the time to try new things and wear things you never thought you would be able to :)

Ok so for the hairstyle I definately think that you need to get a style with some type of bang. In my mind anyone with a bigger forehead should have a bang...it just looks nicer! This is sorta what I could see looking good on you (have them thin your hair if it is thick). And maybe add some different tones of color?

and as far as clothing....pleeeeeaaase I beg of you NOT to get the jeans that are tight from top to bottom.
for example like these....

In my opinion there are only a handful of guys that can pull them off and look sexy.

But for sure try on several pairs of jeans....and just remember us women like to see a guys azz as well so don't get them too big!
so for example something like this is nice....

best of luck and definately update us with some pics!!!!

Holy hell, Funshine, that guy is hot! One of my dark haired actor friends got some highlights and it made his light brown eyes look luminous. Very nice. I agree on the bangs. I love long hair on men, completely prefer it, but I don't like hair in the eyes. What you called the "fringe" cut, is that what your friends in the first pic have? I just think of that as the Beatle cut, and it seems very popular here now. The only thing about that weird comb-over part . . . kind of reminds me of the guys my age that are going bald and trying to camoflauge, lol.

I wore my hair very long and one length for 7 years and when I finally got up the nerve to change it I did exhaustive research. In the past I had also been screwed by a hairstylist that wanted to make me look like everyone else. Well, nuh uh. I am 44, and the last thing I wanted was to look like a socialite prim and proper type, or a preppy mommy. So I looked at younger styles that I could adapt to me. One day while watching a VH-1 fashion review I found it. The host had this great 70's Farrah Fawcett style, but updated. I took a photo with my digicam and printed it out for my hairdresser. It worked great. Then later when I started working in this town I did like Mal said, I stopped a student in the hall because her hair was my length and layered so perfectly. I have been going to her stylist for two years now. Costs a fortune but there are no suprises, never. I love my hair now.

As for clothes, yes form fitting is better, then you can layer over that. When I look at young men (and yes perv that I am I DO look, lol) I like to see their shape, same as a man likes to see a woman's. There is nothing more adorable than a guy who dresses like he took a little time to color cordinate and IRON something. I work in theatre so the guys in our department, gay and straight, are very into their appearance. So I'm spoiled when it comes to eye candy.

And promise me, whatever hair style you do get, please don't sock a baseball cap over it. Southern boys ruin a good look by doing this. A cap is like shoes to them, they never leave home without it. It's so slovenly.

So when do we see the fashion show?
