I know this has been asked a gazillion times but here I Go...

Ok I don't think I'm in good enough shape to attempt HIIT yet, so I was wondering..im 5'10-5'11....210 lbs....need to lose some weight and hope to get in shape..whats best? running longer at a moderate pace...or running hard with intensity for a shorter while....Im also lifting weights alongside my cardio...and keeping a close eye on my diet...thanks

OK, as far as I know, the body is not capable of being in a muscle building phase while also burning fat....unless you are completely new to lifting and exercise, in which case you can get away with some muscle gains and fat loss.

With that said, if you are serious about getting into shape, concentrate on getting a solid lifting routine. Also keep your diet in good condition, that has everything to do with your sucess. So, to answer your question, HIIT is better to do than longer, moderate cardio if you are a lifter. It gives you excellent benefits, while not causing your body to consume muscle, which can happen with longer cardio sessions.

Me personally, I'm concentrating on lifting. So, I am not the most disciplined about the cardio aspect, but I try to do 2 HIIT sessions a week (that's all you should ever do) and 1 longer cardio.

HIIT is very stressful on the body so I would say its better to build up a solid "running base" before you attempt HIIT. Might stop some injuries, who knows....

HIIT without proper conditioning will injure someone, period. Depending on your goals will dictate how you should go about this but well, I'd personally recommend moderate levels for an extended period of time. Just really need to make clear what your intent is first.

yes thats why I said I'm not in good enough shape to attempt HIIT....so looks like I'll do moderate cardio for a couple of weeks and then work my way into HIIT...wish me luck
