I just got hit by a hurricane.

Well, how bout that.

When we went to bed, it was just a tropical storm, but it hit land as an itty bitty Cat.1 and went smack over me. I didn't know that until my sister in law called and asked if we were ok. :11doh:

It was blowing doors around inside my house, so I've been up off and on all night, and the power has blinked out a few times. Me and dh were up for a little while watching the wind, and watching the water in all the yards in our neighborhood.

The wind has been pretty bad, around 75-85 mph sustained they said on the news. It's calmed down now, but we're still gonna see some "wrap around" wind for the next few hours. Great, dh has to go to work in about 30 minutes or so.

Anyway, I've had a pretty sleepless night, so I won't be working out today.

Ok, well dh is gonna hold off going to work for a few hours, we just found out the eye is right on top of us, which is why it seemed to calmed down. But, it's picking back up again now.

damn, this is nuts.

Yeah, it was Humberto.

My husband went into work, and it's a mad house. The whole refinery is shut down and without power. They weren't expecting it to turn into what it did, none of the refineries were.

Basically, when a hurricane is coming, they have controlled shut-down procedures that keep the units from getting messed up. Then, they can bring them back up after the storm. This time, though, it wasn't expected to be that bad, so all the refineries stayed up and running at full capacity (it takes a whole lot to shut them down). Soooo----they got slammed, and entire units are all jacked up, it screws them up pretty bad to be knocked out like that.

He's gonna be on 7/12's (7 days a week, 12 hours a day) for a few weeks. oh, yippy. He did get to come home early today though, to get all the limbs and stuff cleaned up before he starts the 12's tomorrow, so at least that's good.

I remember when I was 6 and Hurricane Floyd caused a tree to fall on our house and then a few yars ago Hurricane Isabel landed and put a tree on our front lawn. Everytime there is a Hurricane I gotta go to my grandmothers house because we live close to the water.
