I'm at a loss.

I'm male and 51 years old, about 5kg overweight and try as i might I just cant shift this fat. Every morning I walk 4 miles, I do circuit training 3 times a week, swim and run 3 miles twice a week. And here is the worst bit:

I have porridge for breakfast, fruit for lunch. And Monday through Thursday a fruit juice mixture for evening meal.

Am I going to bring this 5kg to the grave with me? I'm beginning to think I will :(

Where is the protein in your diet? You need to eat enough protein for your body, or you will not lose the last few pounds. Without protein, the body uses muscle to mobilize building blocks for amino acids, which it must have to survive. Loss of muscle slows the metabolism and will consequently slow wring loss. You need at least 0.8 g of protein per kg of body weight per day. You may need more than that based on your activity level. Furthermore, it must be spread throughout the day, as your body is not capable of absorbing it all at once. Good luck!

You know I was talking to a body builder yesterday about my dilemma and he said exactly the same as you about protein. When I asked how to loose the weight here is what he said.:

3 meals a day to lose 5kg? Easy with your exercise regime.

Stick to this and tell me your results, honestly, in 2 weeks time.

Meal 1 - Porridge, not the ready microwave kind. Allbran or wholemeal toast with peanut butter as an alternative.

Meal 2 - Chicken/lean protein sandwich on wholemeal/salad and an apple. Throw in a low fat yoghurt as well if you like.

Meal 3 - Beef/chicken/lean protein with broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and celery. Throw in your apple as well. Post this meal you cut out all fruit.

Snacks - Assorted nuts - Almonds, brazils, cashews. Your choice.

Show me your determination.

I'm going for it big style Monday and actually looking forward to the challenge

Let us know how it goes!

I certainly will sir
