I just bought a bunch of supplements... and I am tempted to buy more.

I bought 5 pounds of whey protein
2 pounds of dextrose
90 1000 mg fish oil caps
150 caps of bcaa 6000

So that's what I bought so far... I found some others that look very interesting.

Here is one:

It says that this supplement will make it so that your body will use your fat as it's main energy source and leave your muscles alone. I am cutting so this sounds really great! Anyone have any feedback on this? Could it actually work?

Also I found this too:

It's called carb slam, and apparently it is great for post workout nutrition..
It says that it can get the nutritients through your stomach much faster than dextrose or multidextrin. Any comments on this? Sounds great right?

And also is there anything wrong with the supplements that I actually bought? I am planning on using the dextrose and protein post workout... and then using the bcaa and fish oil pre AND post workout.

What do you guys think?

you bought good stuff, cept you likely have no need for the BCAA's.

skip the other stuff you listed. Dextrose is great for post workout carbs...I guarantee Carb Slam is either dextrose or malto-dextrin...6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other, except pure dextrose is way friggin cheaper.

no need to 'time' the fish caps...just take them at meals. if you take on empty stomach they're more likely to cause fishy burps.

thanks for the advice with the fish oil caps.

Why don't you think the bcaa's are necessary? I read in the sticky that they are good to have..

About the lean out supplement... it seems that on this forum people are mostly against them... why is that? the supplement says that it is suppose to make your body use fat instead of muscle to burn, that would be great..
do supplements like that just not work? Or is there really nasty stuff in it? What is it?

Also, I was thinking of getting some estrogen removers. The place on my body that holds the most body fat is my thighs, the guy that does my skinfold tests said that that may be a sign of excess estrogen... do you think an estrogen remover would be a good supplement to pick up?

Do you workout? Most supplements claim to burn fat and save muscle, its like hook, line, and sinker. Apparently its working on you.

Im the opposite with BCAA's. I think they could be of use, however you have to be eating right and lifting HEAVY. No half assing. Be prepared though, because BCAA's taste like crap.

For a fat loss supplement, I would look at something like Hot Rox. Again only if you're working hard.

This hot rox you are talking about...have you ever tried it? Did it work for you? Were there any side effects? Would it be better than Hydroxicut Hardcore? (sorry to thread jack just curious)

the only real reason I said not to bother with BCAA's is because as a newcomer you likely aren't hitting it hard enough to need them, and many quality protein powders already include a healthy dose of added BCAA's.

So, its not that they are bad, just that they might not be utilized at this stage of your training development.

Yes I workout, I do a full body workout 3 times a week, followed by 15 minutes of HIIT. I don't lift real heavy though...not real light either, I can usually get 3 sets of 10.

Right now I am trying to cut after a 3 month bulk, I have lost 2 pounds of fat so far and things are going well.

So, you said that most people just fall for those fat loss supplements, do they actually work? Any side effects? Any nasty ingredients?

As far as eating goes I am eating very healthy.

So with that information do you think the bcaa's are still useful to me? Or do you think I should just wait and use them when I start to bulk again (if I ever do)??? It wouldn't hurt to use them though, correct? Even if they won't help me much(or at all)?

I know enough people who have and seen results. Dont know about HH.

Why are lifting medium? Some work, most dont. Estrogen remover? Probably a good waste of money.

HA. Buying supplements is a little like buying crack. You always want more.

But, then you end up trying a bunch of stuff that tastes like crap and you never use it. And other stuff does not work.

The reason most people do not recommend fat burners is that they are stimulants. That means that there is a lot of caffeine, or other stuff in these products that will "wire you up" and increase your metabolism.

I believe that these products are not necessary for the regular guy looking to cut fat and are better utilized by body builders and figure competitors (this is the main group of people that I know who use the fat burners)

There are arguments on both sides about whether or not they slow your natural metabolism if used for long periods of time.

For you I would say that it is not necessary. Remember that supplements "supplement" quality nutrition but often people end up using them more like a crutch.

You've got everything you need. You don't need anything else.

Fish oil, multi, p-powder...that's all you really need. Until you start competing or better yet, are being sponsored and/or paid to take all kinds of flashy supplements, what you have is all you're going to need.

So even though i'm cutting I should try to always lift real heavy?

How heavy are we talking here? Enough to do only do 3 reps per set? Or.....? What would be a way to know how heavy to lift? And why would it matter if I lift heavy or medium while cutting anyway? (being that muscle gain is impossible while cutting)

I got a tshirt and a little trophy for competing. Can I take teh NaNOX94345 now?

any comments on my last post?

I am thinking of picking up a fat burner supplement though.. but I feel like i'd be selling my soul or something.

It reminds me of one of my favorite video games where the heroes are beating one of the villains in battle then a mysterious force comes and offers him "the power" of course with some consequences..

here is a link if you wanna see.. heh

I feel that way because it doesn't seem like there is a whole lot known about their side effects and long term consequences (if any)

Well the rep/set scheme is up to you, but you always want to overload your muscles with stress. Otherwise what is the point.

Especially important during caloric restriction is lifting heavy weight, put simply, giving your body a reason to keep the muscle you have. Remember your body likes fat and will look to muscle for energy first.

LMAO, the best analogy I've read on this site

Just my $0.02 on the fat loss supplement that supposedly will make your body turn to fat as its primary energy source, I read an article a while back on increasing the fat intake in your diet as a means to doing exactly that. I'm currently trying this theory out (daily fat intake is around 30 - 35%) and it seems to be working. Don't know what your macros are but, maybe this would be a cheaper alternative for you to try?

ETA - if I remember what the article was, I'll post a link.

Thanks for that advice.. that makes sense. The only exercise I have a problem with lifting heavy is my deadlifts...(I just started doing them 4 weeks ago) I can't seem to keep a proper form with much added weight, my back always comes to about a 90 degree angle and I can't keep the weight on my heels, it goes towards my toes.

I rep 145 in my bench press, but only rep 95 in my deadlifts... My bench is even bigger than my squat rep at 135... when I do squats though I do a full 90 degree angle with my thighs when I go down. I see a lot of lifters that put a lot of weight on, but they don't go down nearly low enough to be a true squat. Any advice with the deadlifts though? I should really be able to lift more than that..When I first did deadlifts I didn't know the form and I was doing 145, is it better to lift 95 and have proper form.. or lift 145 and have a sloppier form? 145 is definitely harder either way.

Hmm, that's interesting. Another big reason that I would buy the fat burners is to give myself extra energy though. Being in a calorie defecit is really making me sluggish... it's draining the hell out of me. Even small things like getting up to get a glass of water, or go to the bathroom is turning into a chore... it's terrible.

ya I know, that's where I learned the proper form. I already read all those articles when I started doing deadlifts a month or so ago. I also watched a few videos that demonstrate.. it's a tough lift to master though.
