Hey,
My name is matt and i've been trying to lose weight for a long time (and have lost some) and am in a real struggle right now. Hoping you guys can help me!
Now some details about myself:
I am 18 years old and live on my own atm attending college. I have been trying to lose weight since december 2013 and went from 111,7KG to 99,2KG by attending a program called FinallyLifestyle (i believe it's bankrupt now). i lost the 12,5KG in around 8 weeks using this program. I am a lifeguard in the summer and really enjoy swimming. Now i am back at 102,7KG and having real motivational issues and issues with eating. At the start of the previous week i started counting calories (just being really honest and putting in everything i eat without any exceptions just to see where i am at) and had days where i ate around 8k calories which from what i 've seen is pretty absurd. The mayor problem i have with eating is that im obsessed with finishing something (if i have a bag of chips i will eat until i'm done even if i am borderline throwing up). I also have been going to the gym on and off. Personal achievements at the gym: Squat 110KG Bench press 80KG 210crunches and 3minute hover (i did the 30day ab challenge during the summer) my school has a gym and i have signed up for it.
This post is getting way too long so i'm going to get to the point now. The reason the other weightloss program worked for me is because everything was planned for me (when to eat what to eat and when to exercise) and i'm having real trouble doing it myself. No matter how many times i've tried now i keep falling back into the wrong habits and it is making me really depressed (don't find myself attractive and don't see how other people can). Do you guys have any tips or programs or advice for the excersise/eating/motivation.
Thanks in advance!! TLDR: have had alot of setbacks with losing weight, have actually lost some in the past but really struggling with everything now.

Getting started is the hardest part (or restarted in my case!). Can you replicate the program that worked for you in the past? Do you remember what you did? I also need things planned out. I try to plan my food a week at a time. I divide up big bags of treats like chips and cookies into single portion servings so that I don't eat the whole bag. It might be worth a try for you too. What are some other things that have worked for you?

first off thank you for your reply!

The problem is that the previous program also made me go to the gym with a group of people and kept checking up on me during the week basically giving me a pep talk and that's really hard to copy.
Dividing the portions up is a really good idea but a bit too hard for me for now (i want to fix that issue later on).
So far what has worked for me was to buy a pack of crackers (like 40x5) and eat them all up but still end up not going into crazy high calories but i feel like it is still not the right way to do this because it would be so much better to just eat a small portion.
Do you think there are certain tactics for this? and maybe a few motivational things that worked for you in the past?

Looking forward to your reply

The trick is finding something that will work long term and not just to help shift the weight quickly. The program sounds great but hasn't instilled a healthy relationship with food. There are a few programs out there which encourage you to make good choices on your own terms by using a "free food" or "points" system. I know we're not supposed to mention them but try googling and see what you come up with. They don't work for everyone but it's worth looking into if you haven't already.

Keeping an eye on both your weight and your food/exercise intake might help you to identify weak areas and strong areas. When you have a good idea of what works you can keep pushing that. Once you start seeing results it's hard not to be motivated.
Keep a diary, pin your goals to the wall, pin a list of WHY you want to lose weight to your wall. Anything that will constantly encourage and motivate you to keep trying! Good luck! :D

I agree with you kettlebell,

Try to do it slowly but surely.. coz the more we hurry on things the more we get stress. So enjoy it and with consistency, everything will fall into right places. Please keep coming. We are here for each other :)

Maybe look at one change you can make. Often people try to do to much at one time. What one thing can you change?

What worked for me at first was making small manageable changes. One at a time. First I cut out pop and replaced it with water. Once I was doing that regularly, I added another change. When those two were good for a while I added another. If it didn't work, I swapped with a different change until I found what worked. Now I find that I like to plan everything (meals, workouts, goals, etc.). While you are going through this journey you need to keep what works and discard what doesn't. Keep moving forward. Plan for setbacks and expect them. Change is a cyclical thing.
For me I found that focusing on weight loss was detrimental to my success. Instead I found success focusing on things that would make me healthy and have weight loss as a byproduct. I decided I was going to run a half marathon (I could barely run for 10 seconds at a time). I got a plan and I stuck with it. I accomplished my goal and am working on selecting my next long term goal. Enjoy the journey and the results will come.

Very well said ijustwannabefit :)

If you'd like a buddy to check in with, feel free to pm me :)
I'm just (re)starting my weightloss journey, and it's a toughy. A few things that I'm finding helps - Having support (a family member, friend, PT - someone to check into, talk to, and get advice from). Having a goal (then break it down into easy, manageable, ACHIEVABLE steps). Reward yourself (For example, every 1kg lost, put $5 into a kitty. When you hit your goal weight, you'll have money to buy something you really want). Mistakes happen, learn from them (You will eat a piece of pie, or go overboard with the calories - but learn from the experience). Write everything down (and look at where you can make changes). Throw out the crap food.

Could you do one day a week where you do a BIG cook up for lunches/dinners and freeze them in correct portion sizes?

Good luck on your journey! X

The suggestion of a positive weight loss buddy may be helpful. I hope you will consider that.
