I have a question.

Some guy

So I've recently decided that I'm going to change my lifestyle, I've started a diet, not too strict but I don't eat unhealthily. I've cut out all my old bad eating habits and I've joined the local gym. After weighing myself regularly I've found that in just 5 days I've lost just under half a stone (0.49) Is this too much to be losing in such a small space of time? or will I be okay as long as I continue to regularly eat properly?

It is not unusual to see a large loss initially, which is ok. The more overweight you are the more quickly you will lose compared to someone who is only a little overweight.

Hey man,

Congratulations on starting to change habits and understanding it's a change for good and not just a temporary thing.

I'd suggest you weigh yourself not every few days but give it at least 1-2 weeks. There's a lot of weight variation due to water retention and such, and weighing yourself too often can be misleading. Also consider using a measuring tape around your waist to assess fat loss; sometimes people are very happy they lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks, but then it's 6lbs of water, 3lbs of muscle and 1lb of fat - the scale can be misleading.
