I have a lot of questions (and would possibly like a reality check!)

Hi everyone. First off let me say I love this forum so much and if you were a person I'd hug the heck out of you.

So here's my question: I'll be living here in the US for the next four months at which point I'll be moving. To kick off my new life, I want to be fit as hell. I've always been very in shape (used to box competitively) but life happened, got super depressed and packed on the chub. I'm just now starting to climb out of my rut.

I'm currently a size 14-16 pants (46" hips) with a 33 1/2" waist but carry my weight well because (I think!) of how muscular I used to be.

I'm working out every day, completely cut out all refined sugars, most carbs, etc. I eat about 1200-1500 calories daily of mostly lean protein, veggies and fruits and I drink plenty of water. I circuit train for a half hour 7 days a week as well as strength train on varying days. I've already lost 12 pounds in January as well as 2" in my waist and 2" in my hips, and I think I have about another 40 to go BUT I don't mind losing less, because to me what matters more is inches.

Is it unreasonable to think that I can go down to an 8-10 in four months' time? That would mean I'd roughly have to shave off 7" in my hips and 5" in my waist. The important thing is getting healthy and STAYING healthy, but I'd like to know if it's at all possible to be back where I was in time for my move (if I'm not, that's okay too... just want to know if my goal is not tooooo lofty).

Thanks! ;)

Hi ladyinread,

Firstly, congratulations on losing 12lb/2"/2" so far.

Based on the current trend of your fat loss (2" in, assuming you started right after new years, 6 weeks), it sounds feasible to to lose another 5" over 4 months, however I wouldn't make any guarantees there.

Your diet actually raises some red flags for ongoing progress, though. 1200-1500kcal/day and low carbs sounds like a good way to stall weight loss due to metabolic suppression. General rule of thumb: when losing weigh, consume as many calories and carbohydrates as you can while still being in a calorie deficit; if you stall, reduce calorie consumption by 100kcal/day (about 25g of carbs) and see how you fair.
