Weight-Loss I HATE VEGETABLES!! Why?

Weight-Loss
The phrase, "I don't like vegetables" gets uttered around here quite frequently, and I'd love to be able to understand why there are so many veggists out there... what's a poor vegetable ever done to you to make you hate it so?

Did you grow up in myhouse where the vegetable of choice was canned peas and carrots mixture or frozen string beans or broccoli? then I can understand the vegetable hatred... But don't condemn an entire food group because of one or two bad experiences.

There's a great big wonderful world of very tasty vegetables out there just waiting for you to enjoy.. Enjoy them... they come in such pretty colors too... Go out and explore the farmer's markets, the produce section of the grocery store.. Have fun :)

Eating 5 or more servings of colorful fruits and vegetables a day is part of an important plan for healthier living. That’s because deeply hued fruits and vegetables provide the wide range of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals your body needs to maintain good health and energy levels, protect against the effects of aging, and reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Choose the Colors of Health

Oh, hey, thanks for the veggie lists. I was going to go grocery shopping, I thought of vegetables and only,"Uh... Carrot?" came to mind.

But I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like veggies. If they were fed them often as a baby, then they could have a dislike for them that they don't even have anymore, but think they do... Since babies have more taste buds in the back of their throats, so they leave really bitter tastes there.... At least that's what my Chemistry teacher told me. Who /knows/ if he's right or not. He wears women's x-mas sweaters in August.

I used to hate tomatoes and veggies. Just this year, I've finally gotten used to to eating them. :) Now I'm off to explore the world of veggies outside of carrots and pre-packaged salad!

Thanks mal,
I'm sure if I can remember to have 5 of these, I'd be doing a lot better on caloric intake.

Why can't coffee and cream be a vegetable?!

Uh oh, I think this thread is for me! hahaha! Awesome post though, there are a lot of things I do like on there. I guess a lot of them I just don't really think of as a "vegetable" until I look at a list like this.

it actually wasnt -there are at least 6 - 10 threads where people are asking for help on their diets and every last one of them complains about hating vegetables :)

Mal thanks for this great post. I don't hate veggies actually quite the opposite. Except I always get the same exact ones ... I should really try and be a bit more adventurous. This list is great!

Vegi Oil

Like anything else in the world of food quality is the key. I'd skip anything canned or frozen. Also mix things up, some potatoes, onions, butternut squash etc. If you add something new to the mix every week it keeps things fresh.
As a single guy with no time to spare I just make up a whole batch either steamed or boiled and take them out of the frig as needed (high quality convenience food). Just heat them up over the stove for a few minutes(microwaves can ruin some foods). A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, little salt and pepper...a party in your mouth.
Best wishes,

I work for a produce company and we did a weight-loss challenge competition. We did the 5 a day challenge one week and what amazed me was the number of people who didn't eat their veggies:confused: I mean hello we work for a produce company we deal in veggies everyday and most people couldn't see past the bagged salad. I was really suprised by this. Out of 28 people only like 5 actually ate from the 5 color groups each day. Me being one of them of course!! I am a fruit and veggie girl I love the things and would rather eat them over meat anyday. I am not a vegatarian but I have leanings that way!:) Veggies can be cooked in so many different ways but I think most people just don't know how to cook or season them enough to really enjoy them!

:sigh:

I'm the one who's being difficult today - settle yourself down now, skippy :)

jet lag taking over?

carbs do not make you fat... too many calories, as you have said til you are blue int he face... make you fat... :)

I think that Cinnabon has effected you...

I try and limit my daily intake to 1 cinabon per day. It grows the muscles and sheds the fats.

Do I look like a mini kind of guy to you.

I eat one classic, couple with fries and a milkshake.

I don't care about science, studies, and all that garbabe. This diet works.

I finally had a thread where i thought i was giving out helpful information instead of polluting every thread I touch with nonsense.. and now look what happens..

Nonsense apparantly follows me... I just bring it out in people.

Biggie wendys fries dipped in a choclate frosty -it's all the rage on the diet book...
