Weight-Loss I feel awful.

Weight-Loss

I was doing SO WELL the past 3-and-a-half days. I ate smaller proportions, denied meat and refrained from unnecessary sugar.

I think it all started this morning when we had nothing to eat for breakfast but donuts. I had ONE donut. And I had a pretty healthy lunch (all-vegetarian) and even when I ate a donut around four, I thought it was alright since I was too hungry.

AND THEN for dinner we went out. I didn't finish the food I ordered but I ate some of my sister's and my brother's (we always order something different and share), which would amount to one whole full-of-calories meal. AND THEN I had frozen yogurt with toppings. I know I could have refrained from this or picked healtheir toppings, etc., but I couldn't stop myself.

And I feel AWFUL right now. My stomach is full for the first time in the past two, three days, and I am very disappointed in myself. :(

Hmm... Looking at this from a slightly different angle, it sounds like you had ten meals in which you made mindful food choices, and two or three that were maybe not so mindful. That's an 83% sticking-to-it rate, so don't beat yourself up. :coolgleamA: You're doing great.

From the foods you mention, it sounds like you might have taken a ride on the sugar rollercoaster. When I start the day with a sugary breakfast (or no breakfast), my blood sugar crashes a little while later and makes me tired and hungry for more sugar. If I do eat more sugar/starch, I get the same spike-and-crash over and over again, until by dinner I'm so hungry I don't care what I'm eating.

The best preventive measure I've found is to always always ALWAYS eat a full breakfast, with some protein and fiber, to help keep things stable. Maybe I'm just giving the advice I myself need most, but I hope it helps.

Don't give up!

I've never felt so guilty for eating what I liked. I even wanted to throw up, but that's crossing the line between healthy dieting and eating disorder. And that is just :icon_bs:.

Thanks for your advice. From now on, no sugary breakfast whatsoever.

Happy New Years! :)

I've always found that when I had bad days that the best way to deal with it is to simply go to the gym and forget about what I ate. It is important to avoid dwelling on your bad meals/days/weeks because it is pretty easy to give up and spiral downwards. Just wake up tomorrow and realize that it is a whole new day in which you can get right back on your good eating habits. :)

I agree. The donut wasn't a good idea at all. You might like to try the following raw museli recipe for a kick start to your day. It's filling and will help keep your blood sugar stable. If you are okay with nuts & seeds mix up the following in a container:

- Almonds, hazelnuts, coconut flakes, raisins, goji berries, mulberries & sunflower seeds
- Put 2 tablespoons of the museli into a cereal bowl and pour over rice, almond or oat milk. Just enough to cover.
- Leave overnight and eat in the morning. You can also add some chopped apple or other seasonal fruit.

You soak it overnight so the nuts become more digestable. The nuts & seeds contain a range of essentials fats, vitamins and minerals and because this cereal is filling, you may find you are not even hungry for a long while. When I eat this in the morning I can go all day without anything else.

You can also add some superfoods such as maca or lucuma to boost the nutrient content further.

Alternatively, what about a smoothie or a juice? A smoothie will help with any sweet cravings you may have. Try simple combinations such as banana and blueberry or any other berry and for a juice, carrot, orange and ginger or apple and fennel. Experiment to find the flavours you like. My favorite juice is carrot, fennel, spinach, beetroot and celery. Nothing like it first thing in the morning!

Holy crap woman are you serious?

I just ate mozzerella sticks, poppers and a burger and plan on having a cheese and onion sandwich for dinner with veggies.

DO NOT cut out the things you love, just eat less of them.

I've cut back so much on soda to fit my 1,700 calorie diet that I only drink one once a week, and I hardly ever have candy purely because I never really feel like eating some.

Control your eating habits. Make small changes to your LIFESTYLE that you can carry on for the rest of your life, and stick to them. If you deprive yourself, you will crash and burn.

Don't feel guilty. What happened, happened, and tomorrow's another day. DO NOT rely on daily weight, but on measurements (they're more accurate to depict fat loss instead of weight loss).

If you have any questions PM me

Yeh matt thats how i feel dont cut them out enterly (cant spell ) but yeh dont cut them out just lhave less of the, . i could have a chocolate biscuit but not a chocolate bar if u get what i mean . just dont eat as much as you eat of it and you should feel good :D.

Hey hun! I totally know how you feel! It's OK though -- we can't be perfect and sometimes we'll slip up. Just work out a little harder the next time you hit the gym to try and make up for the added calories. I know it's really hard to say no when you're eating out with others but you'll get better at saying "no" as you progress on your lifestyle change, I'm sure. :)

Well, gee whiz, Rosa. I guess there's nothing else to say that hasn't already been said!

Just forget it and don't sweat it. Start fresh tomorrow and continue a healthy eating plan!

As Scarlet O'Hara once said, "I can't think about that now, after all tomorrow is a new day". (from Gone With the Wind in case you didnt know!)

Good luck and take care.

Unless you felt that you were about to start a mindless uncontrolled binge, that day doesn't sound so bad to me. Maybe my idea of "doughnut" is different to yours, or the yoghurt toppings were amazingly high cal? Did you go way over on calories for the day? How far over? What does that translate to for your own weight this week?

What do you mean by "my stomach is full for the first time in ... days"? Do you mean it suddenly felt bloated and uncomfortable, or have you been eating so little that you felt a bit hungry all the time, and this is the first time you've felt satisfied?

I understand that you want to be very firm about what you eat so close to starting the change you're making, and if your eating wasn't what you wanted, it's good to feel some concern, but maybe just use that to have a look at how you can make things work better. Getting overly emotional can be a trigger for more eating issues for a lot of people who need to lose weight, so it's good be careful about the way you react to seeing problems in your behaviour. Try to keep the rational part of yourself on top.

The tips about diet by other posters are good ones. Also, maybe look at why there were only doughnuts available to you for breakfast in the first place. Losing weight isn't just about making a decision and sticking to it. It's also about learning how to manage your own eating behaviours and it's totally appropriate for that to be an ongoing process.

Hello Rosa
The mistake you made was eating a donut for breakfast! This is the most important meal of the day as you probably haven't eaten for the past 7 or 8 hours.

Start the day with half a grapefruit before breakfast as this increases the metabolism slightly. I usually have a bowl of muesli with half a banana and a few strawberries sliced on top. You could follow that with a slice of wholemeal bread and honey.

Try and eat 6 small meals a day as that way you won't feel hungry and tempted to snack on sugary foods. Make sure those meals contain plenty of fibre as this helps to keep you feeling full.

Thank you, everyone.

I've been horrible with eating habits lately *again*. :/

BUT! I don't feel greatly emotional about it. Just hoping tomorrow I'll try harder. :)

Thanks!!

I think the key is not to let your one day get you off track. So you missed one day, it doesn't mean you can't eat right the next day.
