Hello

I have medical problems.

I spend most of my day in bed. - Why? problems with legs/back.

I walk about 300-500 steps per day, you are meant to get 10,000 steps.

I went on a diet called the cambridge diet where I get 400 cal per day.

I lost about 16 pounds and started walking more, I was slowly boosting this from 400 steps and I was doing about 5000 steps, till I fell over and pulled my back.

I am now taking it easy again, under doctors orders, however the weight is coming back fast due to no exercise.

My questions.

Have you ever gone to see someone about eating too much?

Have you thought about going down the surgery treatment?

My stats, before dieting.

5 ft 9"
17 stone 9. (247 pounds)
Stomach 51" round.

My stats after dieting.

5 ft 9"
220 pounds
Stomach 46"

My stats now.
5 ft 9
235 pounds
Stomach 46"

Cal intake 1800 per day I am a male guild line say 2500 cal per day

Should I cut this down to 1400 cal per day?

In 1 pound there is 3500 cal right? so I am eating 2500 cal too many per day if I am gaining 5 pounds per week?

Well, surgery should always be a last resort.

No offense but you was an idiot to do any diet that only lets you have 400 calories a day. No idea what sort of damage that might have cause your body.

Third, since you aren't moving then your BRM is likely pretty low. 2500 calories a day will likely cause you to gain weight in your situation. I made a guess on age and I figure your BRM is about 2142. This is an estimate.

If you are just eating 1800 a day, you are going to likely either maintain or lose slowly. If you are eating 2500 then you are gaining just under a pound a week...so for you to gain 5 pound in a week (minus outside influences like higher salt intake or medication) you would be eating more around 4500-5000 calories a day.

1800 is a good number for you from what you have said but my bigger worry is your knowledge about weight loss. You say your intake is 1800 and you are gaining weight? I'm more likely to think you are vastly underestimating your calorie intake. It's ok, we all do it when we start. I think you need to have a long talk with your doctor first about your medication to make sure your weight gain isn't a side effect. After that, I suggest a food diary to honestly trake your calorie intake cause I don't see that you are only doing 1800 right now.

my food is weighed and measured, my actuarial intake is 1812 of something.

I have a heavy dosage of medication.

co-codamol 30/500 x 2, 4 times per day - with or after food.
Tramadol 50 x 2, 4 times per day - with or after food.
Diclofenac x 1, 3 times per day - with or after food.
Diazepam x 2, once per day - with or after food, I take these when I can't sleep due to pain.

You may wonder why I take these? well I have ripped the ligaments in the following places, Left ankle, Right ankle, Right knee, Right hip, left hip and done something to my right lung.

An extreme low calorie diet like the Cambridge diet causes a huge loss of water weight. When you go back to a normal diet, you gain the water weight right back. But that's all it is - water.

I agree with Jericho that surgery would be the last resort. From what I've read about it, it sounds pretty miserable. I doubt at your weight you are even obese enough to qualify for it.

Well, I just edited it before you posted, because I think you are already doing that. I meant something other than the Cambridge diet.

None of those things are permanent. How you managed to gain/lose so much weight with these injuries just kind of amazes me. I mean, how long are you supposedly bedridden for? Because, I've known people who have been seriously injured and immobilized for a while, but none of them have gained/lost as much weight as you claim to have done.

Sorry for being so skeptical, but something doesn't sit right with me. Either there's something you're not telling us, you're embellishing your story to a huge degree or you just have some facts mixed up.

I think I see part of the problem. You said: I am a male guild line say 2500 cal per dayMale guidelines for what? Men? So a 6' tall, 250 lb man should eat 2500 cal per day and so should a 5'8" 170lb man?

That's like saying all blue cars should use the same amount of gas, whether they're an SUV or a subcompact.

The number of calories YOU need is based on YOU. What YOU weigh. How tall YOU are. How much activity YOU get. Please read this sticky thread on calories:
http://weight-loss.fitness.com/nutrition/40273-how-many-calories-should-i-eat.html

Using the Harris-Benedict equation in that thread, plus your stats as you provided in the first post, your BMR is 2423. Your maintenance for a sedentary lifestyle is 2907. That's at your current weight.

If you are TRULY eating 1800 calories per day, then you should be losing almost 2lb per week on average.

So I am suspecting that you're not really eating 1800 calories per day. In fact if you're gaining 5lb per week, then you're eating nearly 5000 calories per day.

So something is wrong here with your numbers.

I'm going to chime in with some skepticism of my own. How many doctors have you shopped around to so that you end up with such a fatal combination of drugs to be taking?

You say you are taking Valium AND Codeine? First off I know street junkies who won't touch that combination of drugs. Codeine is an opiate and your average casual drug user is smart enough to know that Valium and Opiates don't play well together...Just ask River Phoenix.

Speaking as an ex-drug user myself, with a dad who is a pharmacist, if we were at a party and you told me you had just taken that combination I'd induce vomiting and rush you to a hospital.

Plus you're taking another analgesic/muscle relaxer with narcotic properties and an NSAID?

Author Stephen King was RUN OVER BY A VAN and was only given percocet for his pain. My sister was in a car accident that shattered half of one side of her body and was given only percoset.

Yet you are telling us that this combination is for some ligament tears. How many surgeries have you had so far for this to make you bed ridden? What's your physical therapy routine...for most people with similar injuries they are getting some aided movement within a very short time after surgery. After all, ligaments have to be kept pliable to be able to heal properly to allow regular movement.

You say you were moving around, but then fell and hurt your back. So are you bedridden for the ligament issues or the back issue? In all honesty, neither seems very likely since the most popular treatment for both of those conditions is slowly working the patient back into mobility...you know unless you've been rendered completely immobile, and since you said you can walk some this seems highly unlikely.

To be honest, I couldn't find anything about your post that jived correctly. It may be that everything in your posts is actually happening to you. But to be honest, there are a lot of things that just don't mix.

HomeAdvanced Weight Loss Clinics

I had a huge problem when I tried to visit another clinic this week. The staff told me that they couldn't pull my information up on the computer, after I had waited an hour and 1/2. They would not even let me see the doctor or purchase anything. Then I was told I would need to call and get my information faxed. Isn't this something that AWLC employees should handle? I tried sending a message through this websites clinic feedback, but no one has contacted me. Has anyone else had this much of a problem visting a different location?

EDIT: GIVE A HOOT...DON'T SPAM
