Weight-Loss

I'm 16, 5'9 170 lbs and I'm trying to get to 155-160 until September. I heard many great things about doing jump rope first thing in the morning before you eat anything. I basically do 30 minutes of jump rope (1 minute skipping 1 minute break) and then I do some push-ups, abs, squats ..a full body workout, and then I eat. Do you think this is gonna help me lose those pounds ? Of course, I'm also eating healtier and less than before. My daily meals are usually:

Breakfast: milk with corn flakes/biscuits
Snack: banana/apple/orange
Lunch: Pasta with meat/fish/vegetables
Snack: Nutella/Peanut butter sandwich
Dinner: Meat/Fish

I must say that I know this is not the best diet but this is what I've always eaten, but if you have any suggestions for me, I'd love to hear them. Just keep in mind that I live in Italy and for example I've never seen oatmeal around here so I just stick with the food that my parents buy, since I live with them. And oh, I know it's not the best thing but they usually use white bread and white pasta. And also, I'm drinking only water, and trying to avoid soda and junk food as much as I can.

Sometimes I think the best way to get jump start yourself with a detox! It gets you disciplined, and motivated! Then get a good cookbook that will help build up and maintain your metabolism!

What are your portion sizes like? How many metric cups of cereal, for example, do you have each morning? What type of milk (full fat, low fat, 1%, etc)? Do you add sugar? How much pasta per serving? Can you reduce the pasta amount and up the quantity of veggies to bulk out your dish?

Have a google on portion sizes to give you an idea :)
For the arvo snack, could you have an apple with peanut butter instead of bread? or Celery and peanut butter? Just as something different :)

Well Marco,

I am definitely not an advocate of fasted cardio training. There are trainers who recommend this on the bases that after a night sleep your glycogen levels will be depleted (glycogen is the stored carbohydrate that your body uses for energy).

Glycogen needs 12 to 16 hours to get depleted. With traces of glycogen your body will use muscles as a source of energy and not fat. Losing muscles will slow your metabolism throughout the day. Which is not what a thing that you want to happen.

I recommend that you have a carbohydrate rich snack before your training.

This diet is not good for weight loss...way too much carbs not enough protein and fat. Try having high protein breakfast with some good fats only and cut out the nutella, pasta and bread. Meat and green vegetables will get you the results you want

I agree with you. Products such as nutella is not recommended to be taken with a diet and all products containing a high proportion of carbohydrates should be reduced in the meal. My wife was engaged in weight loss in the past year. She didn't use on a diet, only take detox and exercise 5 days a week. As a result, lost 38 pounds in 8 months. I believe that if someone has a desire to lose weight, you need to move more

Better to workout after a light meal or snack, especially after waking up. You want to kick start your metabolism as early as possible after you wake up, as the longer you take before you eat teh more your body goes into self preservation mode and stocks fat deposits. Having a light meal helps the metabolism, gives your body fuel for teh work out and ultimately helps better long term results.

Suggested early morning snacks, light meals for breakfast are: almonds or berries (have in smoothies or with a good quality yogurt), oatmeal or poached eggs.

Hope you've got your result since you posted Marco. You' ve made a good start by cutting out soda and junk food. Being in Italy is the ideal place to eat a Mediterranean diet. It is a healthy diet that has been shown to be good for weight loss and overall health. It consists of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It also includes healthy fats, such as nuts and olive oil, seafood, and smaller amounts of dairy and meat. Replace you cornflakes and biscuits which have sugar in them with eggs or no added sugar yogurt. You can add your own fruit and some nuts. Alternatively have eggs with vegetables left over from the night before. Make a vegetable omelete or frittata. Google recipes if you don't know how to make these things. If your mother has a blender you could make smoothies as Allan suggests above.

Instead of the afternoon sandwich snack have some vegetable sticks with hummus or mashed avocado instead. White bread is not a healthy option as you probably know and Nutella is full of sugar. Peanut butter is often full of moulds called aflatoxins. You don't mention vegetables with your evening meal but I presume you eat them with the meat or fish.

Establish a healthy eating/positive nutrition plan that can be incorporated into your everyday life. The focus on this is to eat smaller more frequent meals that focus on enhancing your metabolism.

Having a disciplined eating regime, where we have frequent and smaller meals throughout the day alerts our bodies’ metabolism functions to the fact that there is a new system in place and that they need to be alert and active all the time. By getting this in order our metabolism gets started on a path into hyper drive mode where our metabolism accelerates with each meal.

The other fundamental aspect of this principle is that we need to ensure that the meals consist of the right foods, foods that will be stimulating to all of our senses as well as stimulating to our metabolism.
