I didn't fit on the roller coasters, so now I'm here

Hey all! I'm a 25 year old female living in south Texas. I've always had a side of me that liked doing exciting things like going camping, hiking, going to theme parks, running, etc...but I've always had an even bigger part of me that loves food. I'm 228 lbs, and this is a pretty quick increase for weight for me because this time last year I weighed about 170 lbs. I've always been chubby, so theme parks did always kind of scare me due to my fear of the seat belts unlocking or the restraints coming up. Until my newfound weight, however, I would get by just fine and had no real issues with being "too fat". Two days ago I was packing for a trip to a theme park with friends and I realized that none of my summer clothes from 2017 fit me. I knew that my favorite belt had stopped fitting me as well as most of my shorts, but I didn't realize that none of my tank tops fit me either and it made me quite sad. The next day, yesterday, at the park the disappointment continued as I was asked to not ride 2 rides and had to ride in the "larger passenger" chair of 1 ride as well. It was mostly frustrating because I wasn't supposed to be here at this age, I was supposed to finally be at my "goal" weight (it's always been 150 lbs). Also, I felt like I saw so many women who seemed to be my size at the theme park that were riding everything just fine. I know most of my weight goes directly to my gut and thighs, so I gave myself that much of an excuse for not fitting. Otherwise, there is no real excuse for being my size. I am 5'2 weighing 228, which puts me at a BMI of 41.7, my stomach is about 54 inches around. I really just want to be healthier, I don't have an exact goal weight anymore. I want to be able to be physically active, fit into my clothes again, and ride roller coasters (and of course avoid chronic illnesses).

If anyone has any tips for me please throw them my way, especially beginner tips, diets, and workout plans. I'd also love motivation and friends to help me stay focused.

Thank you much,

Stace

Which ever method you choose the most important thing is to stay consistent. You can't do a program for just one month and expect massive results.
What ever you do should become a lifestyle change that your comfortable with.If you can do that then you will find yourself more consistent and down the trail achieve whatever vision you have for yourself.
As far as methods I do tabata training 3 times per week. They are 5 min sessions 3 times per week so there is really no excuse not to get this done. Then I lift weights 3 times a week for about 20 min.
As you can see I don't make a huge time commitment but you don't need to. You just need to remain consistent.
JUST DO IT

Hi Stace,

Keep positive, this is the most important thing. Choose a good plan and diet and the results soon will show! Don't loose faith!

I understand your struggle. My biggest obstacle to overcome was "finding motivation". Finding the motivation to make healthier choices and get up and moving. I use to make a lot of excuses on why I can't hit the gym today or why I'll just eat that I ice cream today. I noticed I would make excuses on average 5 days a week and I realized I needed to stop and just do it.

I hated going to formal events, meeting up with my much slimmer friends or going to my kids school events because I was self-conscious.

Some things that have helped me:

* Eat balanced meals 3x a day with healthy snacks in between. Make sure to eat those snacks so that your body feels full and you don't have those sudden cravings for sweets or other unhealthy, quick snacks. Eating too little will cause your body to do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. Provide your body nutritious meals with adequate calories.

* Add a cardio and strength training routine. Strength training is important for building lean muscles which will help you lose weight. Muscles burn more calories even during periods of rest and sleep.

* Make lifestyle changes - take the stairs, exclude sugary beverages, take a stroll and enjoy the outdoors.

* Having a friend or family member who will do this with you may help keep you motivated.

* Don't focus on the scale. For me, I find the scale to be counter-productive. It usually makes me feel as if I am not accomplishing much. Fat weighs less than muscles so if you workout, you are building muscles which in turn may make you weigh more. Go with inches and how your clothes fit. These are a better reflection of progress.

* Make small goals and reach for them one at a time.

* Lastly, I have on my fridge a picture of a realistic body goal that I feel I can achieve at my age. This is my ultimate goal to shoot for but remember every little progress is progress so don't get discouraged.

If you feel that a weight-loss program may help then you should look into it. It wasn't for me, but I know it has worked for some of my friends. Many of them offer free consultation and/or free trials so consider taking advantage of those trials to see if its right for you.

Good luck and let me know if you have any Qs!

Hi Stace,
A similar situation happened to me. Two years ago I went with my friend to a theme park and I did not fit in the chair of a roller coaster. But this event didn't trigger my decision to lose weight. A few weeks after that I went to a dinner party and we took a picture together and my friends send me the picture in my email. I opened the picture the next day on my big screen laptop and wondered: who is that fat lady next to my friends? Really!!! I did not recognize my self!

After that moment, a click went in my head. A decision was made! And as for every decision a plan is made. Like you did. You decided you wanted to lose weight and you got on the internet and found forums and support groups to help you. That is the first step.

Now you have to try stuff. Which is the fun part... You can try all the sports you can find in your location.
I tried running, swimming, tennis, lifting weights, cardio workout, CrossFit, walking long walks... :)

The best fit for me was combining cardio, CrossFit and lifting weights. I got a coach who taught me how to do all of those things.
And after I started to train every day my thinking about food changed. Everything that was delicious before now started to look not so good. :) I think you have to start training and then go on a diet. Because training will keep you on your diet. You will think: I went through all that and now I'm gonna eat junk food, hell no!!!!

I started to eat more proteins and less bread, pasta, and stuff that have gluten inside. And also I needed to educate myself about food. Didn't know what gluten was and how it affected my body.

But the most important thing in all of these is your mindset. If you believe and think "I am going to lose weight and weigh 170 lbs" then you will do it. You just need to set your goal and give it a realistic time. Don't say you are going to lose 100 lbs in 1 month. Give it a year! Be realistic and that will be a healthy way of losing weight.

Hope you make it!

p.s. also check on Youtube videos that have motivation about weight loss... It boosts you up, especially if you watched them in the morning at the start of your day

Hey Stace, you sharing your story is great. We all know you want to be healthier and you can do this! Your why should be getting healthier so you can fit into your old clothes and getting back to the amusement parks to have fun. From experience I learned that what you eat and the portion sizes have a big impact on weight loss. The key is to start doing, make little changes and most importantly, be consistent!. For example, if you drink pop, slowly start phasing it out by drinking flavored water, then mixing it with regular water. Drink a 10 oz glass of water before your meals. This will help you eat less. For exercise, start keeping track of walking either with a notebook or on a phone workout app. Listen to your body. If a exercise becomes easier, then you need to increase the time, intensity etc. Hope this helps!

Best of luck! If that is something that keeps you motivated then hold on to it! I remember hating having to keep going out and buying bigger clothes as well as the brands I liked didn't have my size.

Clean your cabinets and refrigerator out of all of the junk food. when it's not there your not tempted as bad. Exchange it for fruits and veggies it
will be a challenge but stick with it. If you had a friend to do this with you and get support from one another that helps a lot. I hesitate to say this but if you can do good 80% of the time the 20% is not bad unless the 20% consist of foundering on the things you suppose to be watching. If and when you go out to eat maybe that's your 20% if you eating high calorie food get the smaller portion maybe kids meal. We have to get exercise, it's a must. if you can eat small portions and eat more frequently I'm talking healthy wise your stomach will start to shrink and you won't want to eat as much. I don't think we give our minds time to catch up with our full monitor. We think about how good it taste instead of thinking about how full we are. Hope I could help. All the best to you.

So you want to lose about 78 lbs.

Don't give up on having a target weight, you will be motivated if you see results toward a number.

First, you must fast and utilize body fat. You can do 1 meal every 2 days (or take more days if needed). The important thing is to keep your electrolytes up while your fasting. This means you need to have sodium and potassium in water to keep hydrated.

You wont even be hungry after day 2. When you have body fat to burn, cravings are purely psychological. In fact you will feel clear and full of energy after about the second day, just make sure to keep your electrolytes up.

If you do 48 hour fasts, then refeed with one meal, then 48 hour fast, then refeed with 1 meal, (and so on). You can definitely lose 15-30 lbs a month.

When you do refeed, make sure you keep the meal low carb, low calories, and preferably low fat (since you wont need dietary fat for quite some time).

If you want to lose the weight faster then you could always do 72 hour fasts and refeed (or longer durations).

The important thing is to know that the cravings are not true hunger. We are food addicts that are used to spiking our blood sugar multiple times a day.

I am lean now, and I eat once a day, and do a 48 hour fast on the weekends. Feel the best I have ever in my life, and my blood tests are the best they have ever been. Fasting saves lives. You are not stuck with this weight, you can be healthy.
