I am new here

Hello Everybody,

I am joining this forum hoping that it will help me start a new chapter of my life. I have always been a big guy, I come from a big family so it was kind of destined for me to be big. Right now I am 19 years old 6'6" and I am 410 pounds. I have never been this heavy and I am not happy about it. I was always into sports when I was younger, I always played football and was on my high school's track and field team. I graduated high school a year ago, and have gained about 90 pounds.

I was a shot put thrower in high school and I was actually pretty good at it. We ran a half mile everyday and lifted weights for 2-3 hours 6 days a week. I was about 310-315 then. Unfortunately I messed up my shoulder half-way through my last season in high school. I was supposed to throw on my college track team but I can't throw anymore because of my shoulder. I never saw a doctor about it because I am not one of those people that likes going to the doctor. I still re-aggravate the injury every once in a while but it goes away so I don't do anything about it. Not being able to do track and field in college definitely contributed a lot to my weight gain. I haven't been forced to run, I haven't been working out at all because I am scared that I am going to hurt my shoulder again.

I recently told myself that I have to get healthier and that I am going to start soon. I just signed up for the local gym. I went today for the first time in about 6 months and it felt really good. I have lost a lot of my strength but I am still really strong, but unfortunately, lifting weights doesn't make you drop pounds. For the past 2-3 weeks I have been eating a lot better, A lot more veggies, chicken instead of beef, and brown rice instead of pasta. I don't usually eat breakfast and when I do it is either just a plain toasted bagel or a cup of oats with protein. I have a sandwich everyday for lunch and I stopped drinking soda and started drinking a lot more water (about 6-9Liters a day) and low calorie/sugar Iced tea.

It has been 2-3 weeks and I have not dropped any pounds and I don't know why. Once going into 8th grade I think, I lost about 45 pounds over the summer going from 250 to 205, with the first week losing 12 pounds, but it is not working now. Its been 3 weeks and I have barely lost anything. I would think it should drop faster because I am heavier so hopefully by joining this forum i will be able to get some motivation and some tips on how I can lose a lot more weight.

Right now I would like to try and get to 300 by the end of august. Then I want to eventually get down to 250 with a more muscle.

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

The changes you have made so far are a good start but do you know exactly how much you are currently eating ? To make meaningful changes you need to know your starting point. get an account with one of the many food tracking sites to establish your starting point for further changes.

Start a diary in the diary section and post a record of your food and exercise to get regular feedback.

You may not like doctors but as a competitive older lifter with shoulder issues, it is better to get your shoulder seen to properly or face worse problems as you get older. Injuries often cause you to favour other bodyparts which then cause further injury to more than just your shoulder.

Is your plan at the gym customised for you to improve as well as prevent further shoulder problems or are you just doing exercises you like ?
