Hypothyroidism

Hey guys, I'm 19 years old and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about ten years ago and I've been on levothyroxine for that whole time however throughout my whole high school and now into my college life I have been unable to lose a single pound no matter how healthy I eat or how often I work out. I know it's like twice as hard for people with this condition to lose weight but I am getting so frustrated because everyone keeps telling me i need to lose weight, I know I do but it is so horribly difficult and I'm working really hard but seeing zero results. If any of you know anything that can help, diet tips, exercise, or weight loss supplements, I would appreciate it so much.

You are right that hypothyroidism can make it harder to lose weight, but it can be done. To start out, I suggest you start a food log. You can sign up for a free online program such as Fitday or MyFitnessPal where you can track your eating habits and see exactly how many calories you are eating and also the proportions of fat, protein, carb, etc and it will show this information for each food item you enter. I do this, because many times I underestimate how much I'm eating of the wrong foods and sometimes snack foods find their way into my diet and I don't think to consider them. If I see that a certain food is higher in calorie than I thought, I cut back on that particular food. If this does not help, then I suggest you discuss this with your doctor. You didn't say how much you weight, so maybe you aren't really overweight. Hopefully, your doctor is checking your thyroid levels to make sure you are on the right dosage of your meds.

I do not recommend trying any supplements. You never know how they will interact with meds you are taking, and most of them are not regulated by the FDA.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a plan that works for you.

There are supplements which made according to the health conditions. As you are diagnosed with Hypothyroidism you can consult a dietitian and can prefer some natural weight loss supplements which don't have any sort of side effects and don't exaggerate the health condition.

I totally understand what you're going through and how frustrating this can be. My mom actually had her thyroid removed and has had a struggle with losing weight. I would actually like to speak with you further about what you've actually had done from a physician perspective. Have you had your vitamin D3 levels checked? My mom and I did a program together, she lost 38 pounds in 90 days without a thyroid so I can share this with you too! Chat with you soon!
