Hypothyroidism and weight loss

I suffer from Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and want to know if anyone has any dieting suggestions. Because of it I have put on a considerable amount of weight - in two years of my early teens (I'm 19) I gained 20 kg, I am tall at 180cm tall but am overweight/obese (depending on the BMI chart). I am unhappy with my current weight, and have started phentermine (15mg) daily to reduce my appeitite and increase my metabolism. I have noticed some weight loss, but not much. I was just looking for any more information about methods to help, I cycle about 60kms a week, depending on my commitments to study and eat a low fat, low carb, low dairy diet, full of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, low fat yoghurt, high fibre cereal and avoid sugar. I use calorie 'free' alternatives in coffee. I try my hardest and have a pretty strong will power, and can resist temptation all the time - food isn't my problem. I don't eat foods that interact with my medication - which include some of my favourite vegetables (I'm a vegetarian - do eat eggs 3 times a week for protein). I am wondering whether I should go on a VLCD (such as meal replacement shakes, soups or bars) as a kick start to my metabolism but my calorie aim is 1000 cal - occasionally it may be slightly more.

I am at a loss to why I am so overweight, I try my hardest and feel like I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

completely incorrect. You can lose weight without exercise. It's harder because you are not also increasing your calorie out but it is done..often..by many on this very board.

I have the same problem and questions. I workou three times a week at least and losing weight for me is almost impossible. I can spend one whole week on a diet one day that I am out and eat a bit more, not everything I see but just a bit more, I gain more than what I lost in a week of faithful diet... I would really appreciate some help as well...
