Sport Hydration Question from a newbie

Sport Fitness
G'day all

I'm a first time poster. I have a question regarding my H2O intake. Stock standard water is ok if you feel thirsty but i'm pumping down more that my thirst requiers. I don't mind green tea though so I was curious if green tea is ok to sip on all day.

BTW I'm loving the site.

Welcome! Thomas here.

Green tea will have around 25 mg of a natural form of Caffiene per serving(8oz). there are benefits from caffiene and some hidden dangers. If you are drinking more becuase you are thirsty, that is your body telling you its dehydrated. Caffiene will increase your heart rate, thus increasing O2 exchange and leading in further dehydration, with 8 oz of green tea you would be loosing about 4 oz of water when you urinate from the caffiene alone.

remember this form of caffiene is water based and will not bind to your cells like coffee will. meaning its not the jittery kind of stimulant.

I will-in short, say not to sip on green tea over the day, but try some crystal lite if plain water is getting boring for you.

most humans will require around 96 oz of water per day.

Welcome to the site!

honestly I see nothing wrong with having some green tea provided you don't sweeten it with regular sugar.

but i'd still suggest having plain water most of the time. an afternoon cup of tea...no problem.

just because you're not thirsty, doesn't mean you're drinking too much water. Aim for about 1 gallon a day...128ounces.

and to check if you're properly hydrated: Take a piss and look at the color. Orange juice = bad. Apple juice = good.

Aim for a minimum of 8-10 glasses of cool mineral water not soda, coffee or tea. After that you can drink tea or coffee in moderation. The problem with beverages is that they contain caffeine and leave you dehydrated.
