HurryHeathen's Workout Journal

Hello everyone. First i'll state my goals
They are to gain about 30 lbs in muscle, so go from 140 lbs to 170 and improve my cardio. The cardio for me though is more of a priority. So today was my first day and I ran 3 km on a treadmill and played some 1 on 1 basketball for about 30 minutes. I weight 140 and am 5'6 1/2. At my weight do you think it is realistic to shoot for 30 lbs in say 7 to 9 month time frame?
Thanks
Mike

30 pounds of muscle in a 7 to 9 months? I would say the odds are that even if you had everything "perfect" (which is a high probability it wont be, cause' no one is perfect), that you will not gain 30 pounds of "pure" muscle in 7 to 9 months of time. What this is not saying, is that you can not gain "30 pounds of weight" in a 7 to 9 month time span, as this is surely....more....of a probability (muscle v fat displacement).

For most (leaving out the genetically gifted that are out there), the body's ability to put on muscle usually is exceeded by its efficient ability to put on fat tissue, even if you try real hard to get things correct in the diet/training manipulation. To build muscle simply takes TIME, and the body builders (that are natural) have taken many years to put that amount of muscle on their frame.

I would simply develop a training and dieting (lifestyle change) program that creates an environment for muscle growth, with limiting fat accumulation, be consistent, and your goal for "appropriate" tissue gain will come.

How old are you?
