Hurricane Ike

I hope anyone in Houston, Galveston, Beaumont, or surrounding areas is LONG gone and on their way to safer ground.

Right now it looks like I-45 in Dallas itself is pretty clear, but I hear 35 is starting to jam up quite nicely.

Right now in Big D we're still waiting to see which way the storm turns. It could still be a pretty punchy tropical storm by the time it gets to north Texas.

:waving: Howdy Neighbor

Anything can change..(we are in Mesquite)

The 'track' will not hit us head on at this time. That could change though.

We love/watch CH8.. Pete and Steve said that we will still get up to 45 mph winds and heavy rain/flooding and possible tornado outbreaks.

If the track shifts we'll get cat-1 weather events.

Either way, we are gonna get bad weather..lol..

Thank gosh my family arrived in this area LATE lastnight.

They fled from Galveston Island and Corpus.

MESQUITE! Howdy neighbor! You're just down 635 from me. I'm near 635 and DNT.

I'm glad to hear your family is here and safe, that's awesome.

I don't watch channel 8; I was raised on KXAS with Harold Taft and then David Finfrock. I like the new weather lady they have; I really miss Rebecca Miller but Jennifer Lopez is pretty darn good too.

I actually went to Wal-Mart last night and bought water, candles, and a flashlight. And 2 tubes of Pringles in case the power goes out. Now nothing will happen, guaranteed! I went to the one in Plano on Park and DNT and it was PACKED with people getting those same things. I'd never been there but I found those items without any problems; I just followed the crowds. :leaving:

So far nothing is happening here...it's a little breezy but nothing unusual. No rain.

My thoughts are with the peeps down on the coast; I hear it's REALLY bad down there. :angelsad2:

so candles, flashlights and pringles are the hurricane survival gear :)

In blizzard country - the go to items are toilet paper, bread, milk and candles :)

RE: My family ...

My poor family from Galveston Island have NOTHING!

They did the look and leave and found their home under water. All they can see is the roof. All of their belongings are floating around their lot and down the street.

FEMA is giving them a hard time as well. They have been kicked out of motels after 3 days and have to drive hours to a new city to re-apply and get set up again for 3 days.

They have 2 small adopted children that are under 7 yrs. old as well.
They have been all over Texas!
I feel so very sorry for them.
Family here just does not have any space to hold them over or the money to feed extra mouths. It makes us all feel like pure CRAP!

We are also scared to death that her brother (my Uncle Darell) may be floating off out to sea bc so many people in graves have been found!!

It is so horrible for all affected...

Wow, I hadn't heard that.

My parents and little brother are still without power, but should hopefully be getting it back soon. The cold front last week was a saving grace; I can't imagine how horrible all that region would have had it had the weather remained in the 90's.

FEMA is such a piece of crap since Bush rolled it into Homeland Security. It used to be one of the best federal agencies out there. Looks like they didn't learn much from Katrina.

I hope things improve for your family very soon.
