Sport hunger an indicator?

Sport Fitness
Hey guys,
I was just wondering if hunger is a good indicator for getting some food (when trying to lose fat, that is!).
In particular if the hunger adapts to your eating habits more than it indicates that your body really is in the need of food. What do you think?

I'd like to know this as well. I eat around 350kcal 5 times a day and go hungry in about 1.5 -2 hours.

No, hunger is not a good indicator of when to eat. Actually, you should very rarely feel hungry if your eating every 2-3 hours and your macro breakdown is in line with your goals.

I think you should plan meals to help you indicate how hungry you should be. Don't go longer than four hours without eating and if you schedule three meals a day with two mini snacks in between and are still feeling hungry, it's probably just your body reacting...unless of course you're starving yourself.

I think it's about time to look how much I really need and stop guessing...
What kept me from doing this so far was that I have no clue of how I can estimate my ideal daily calory intake. Also- wouldn't it change frequently (because of progress)?

would'nt eating when hungry help a person tring to GAIN WEIGHT; in the sense that when you're hungry the body is asking for more energy
so eating some good healthy food, the body will better absorb the nutrients

Count calories. If you don't gain or lose anything at the end of the week, that's your maintenence calories; you can tweak from there.

I wonder what difference it would make to actually know how many calories I need for maintenance. I know that I didn't gain/lose any weight for the past 3 weeks or so.. but judging from what I read so far- if I'd just cut it down and go below that amount of cals I'd lose fat, muscles and everything (maybe! I've also read stuff about starving the body and holding on to the fat reserves even stronger.. so maybe it would be like worst case, losing only muscles?). So in order to lose more FAT I'd have to do more cardio (but to fuel it I'd need to eat more than the amount for maintenance again, wouldn't I?!). I'm so confused.

#1 If I eat less than I eat right now I'd probably lose muscles.
#2 If I eat like I eat right now nothing happens.
#3 Eating even more doesn't make any sense to me (even with doing even more cardio.. wouldn't that be the same outcome as #2?)
#4 Eating different stuff that contains the same amount of cals - maybe? That could be it.. like eating enough stuff to match my needed cal intake but with lots of carbs and prots of which I have no idea what they're for. I wouldn't really know what to eat, though.. I don't think I eat too unhealthy..

It's difficult.. can anybody please explain me how this whole thing called human body works?

read "burn the fat, feed the muscle" by Tom Venuto. It is and excellent book that'll give you all the information you need.

ebook,

I read a pirated version off the net first, but it's so excellent I felt bad and went ahead and bought it.

Sometimes 'hunger pains' are a sign that you are dehydrated and you actually need water.

This is a very good point. I do this a lot...you need a ton of water in a day. Not only will it rid you of "hunger pains" but it also keeps you energized.

also when u don't have enough sleep i tend to feel hungry often and i assume its by body trying to make up for the lack of the full sleep.

how long should you leave it to have your next food? do you need to give it time for your body to diguest the food or can you just keep on eating?
