a lot of people think this is a healthy food, in moderation yes, but there can be problems with self-control. not too long ago, I cheated on my diet with hummus, but ended up eating the whole tub :ack2: and a lot of pita bread with it. It added up to 750 calories and 21 g of fat. :ack2: So I ended up exercising it off.

That's the problem I always had, self-control, hummus isn't that bad, it's a natural healthy food if you have small quantities, the fat wasn't a problem with the pita bread, which was fat free, just the hummus....though calories was a problem with the pita bread too.

later, I had some more hummus, but this time I forced myself to put it away after having a smaller portion of it. :Angel_anim: And I felt good after doing that, because, it's always been hard for me to think of food as an occasional thing, where you just take a little from the container, I always finished off the container (like a can of Pringles or cashews), in a day or less , it was horrible, and I ended up feeling guilty.

This post may not seem like it has a point, but I'm just curious if anyone else has had "problems" with hummus.

I make my own hummus in fairly large quantities, so eating the entire container would be hard! That said, I've had the occasional hummus binge. Still, when made with very little oil, it's very healthy in normal quantities. I recommend vegetables instead of pita bread. I ate a 1/4 cup of my sun-dried tomato hummus and a sizable bowl of baby carrots today for a snack. It was at most 250 calories and not that much fat, and it was really filling (which I needed, cuz my lunch was not).

Yep ive done the hummus binge. I have a thing for pesto. so better to binge on pesto flavoured hummus than pesto (oil & basil)!

Chickpeas / Garbanzo beans are one of the most healthy foods a person can put in their mouth. That's the bulk of what goes into hummus. The other ingredients might be olive oil - which is an extremely desirable fat - lemon juice (nothing evil there), sesame seed paste (tahini) nothing really bad there either. Even if you ate that much - 750 calories - it isn't like you sat there with a box of twinkies. :) I really would never sweat over an indulgence in a food like hummus. Just take it in stride. Dont' do it every day - but let yourself live a little.
