How unsmart is this?

Ok, I have been trying to get to the blood bank for the past 2 weeks but something kept coming up. well, today the blood bank came to the office so I gave a pint (had some nutter butters and a fig newton).

Afterwards she tells me not to lift anything more than 5 lbs (?!?! I guess I should have just left my handbag) and not to do any strenuous exercise for two to three days. Two - three days?!?

OK, that's not gonna happen anyway, but I forgot that I have triathlon training tonight and we will be bike riding hills.

I have been drinking water like a fish since 10:00am to get re-hydrated, took some iron and a multivitamin, ate a turkey and cheese, a power bar and an apple, then drank a V-8.

I doubt we will ride much more than 10 or 12 miles but I do not want to miss the hills workout as the Tri bike route is helaciously hilly. The Tri is 6/10.

Would it be totally moronic of me to train tonight, or do you think I'll be ok?

Then, "What would you do?"(I mean really what would you do - we all give great advice that we don't follow ourselves)

Well it sounds like you have replenished yourself and you did give blood this morning, which was probably 8+ hours before your training. I would go by how you feel if I were you. And if you feel ok then 'if I were you' I would train and if I started to get dizzy or feel weak tonight then I would just stop. Make sure you get a good night's sleep and get some rest in tomorrow. Gooduck!

I think it may take more than a day to replenish a pint of blood. I think you'd end up not training as well as you could if you go tonight. I'd just go out and train on my own the following day - or are you going for social reasons?

I actually felt surprisingly well and really road well. We were training for hills so we kept riding the same circuit which had a few helacious hills. I never felt weak or dizzy.

The reason I like to train with my group is because my coach is there to give pointers on technique; God forbid anything bad happen, I'd like to know that someone would be there for me; and because a lot of the good hilly roads are main road with lots of car traffic and I just feel safer if there are several of us riding and not just tiny little speck on the horizon me.

I have donated over 4 gallons over the last 20 years and have never heeded their advice to lay off afterwards. But that's me. Go with how you feel. If you feel fine, don't worry about it.
