Hi,

I keep track of exercise and water every day but I'm not sure how to keep track of food and know what it means.

I could write everything I eat down but then how willI know if it is suitable for weight loss unless I put all the calories down too? Wouldnt that take up a lot of time and searching? Is there a programme or book one can use? or do you get used to how many calories something is once you have learned e.g grilled chicken breast 120, egg ...... This could reallybe the difference to me reaching my goal and losing hope, no Im not going to lose hope. I eat what I think is carefully but I dont know if I really am being that careful.

Any ideas? advice?

Try checking . It's a website where you can track your food, calories and even exercise etc. if you want to. It's really helpful and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

I use myfitnespal.com. If you have a smart phone they have an app that synchronizes to the internet. you can review or add foods from both your phone and your computer. you can even use the phone's camera to scan the barcode of food to enter into your log.

I use a program called cron-o-meter, which is a free download. I really like it. It tracks everything you could ever think of and more if you want to (or knew how to do it)- personally I keep it quite simple, but it breaks down everything I eat (if you look in my food diary, I can tell you how many grams of carbs, protein, and fat are in every food item I have). It does require weighing things, but that's the way you want to do it ideally in any case (and if you can't, I suppose you could guess, but it'd be inaccurate)

I have used Fitday for a few months now and I really like the program, especially since I got most of my custom food items created for quick reference.

I am using various online resources such as FitDay plus an offline book to measure calories, after a while you know most of the foods you eat by heart so it does not take long to measure the calories.
