Hi guys, Jon Penberthy here.
Chances are you landed on this video because you are searching for ‘how to rank my videos on Google.’
In this video I am going to teach you one thing you can implement with your videos to greatly increase your chances of getting ranked on the first page of Google.
I have been using video in my business for the last 3 years, and I consistently get videos ranked on the first page of Google.
There are tons of different variables and ranking factors that go into getting your video ranked. But today let’s look at one of the main ones - ‘watch time.’
YouTube are now placing a huge amount of emphasis on ‘watch time’. In fact I was recently invited to YouTube’s headquarter’s in London, and was able to ask them about their ranking factors. They told me that at the moment, when figuring where to place your video in the rankings, they place a huge emphasis on watch time. Even more so than they do on likes, views, comments and subscribers!
So you understand it is important. But what is watch time?
Watch time is the average amount of time that a visitor who lands on your video spends watching it.
For example, if you have a 5 minute video, and most people watch it to the 4 or 5 minute mark, your video has a good watch time.
If the average person only watched for 30 seconds before leaving, this would result in a bad watch time. It shows YouTube that people are not enjoying your content.
So how do you increase your watch time? (and therefore your chances of getting on the first page of Google)
Here are my top 2 tips.
1) Keep your videos short. Aim for 2 - 3 minutes long, maybe up to 4 minutes. It is common sense that the shorter the video, the more likely people are to get through to the end. The longer it is, the more likely people are to drop off.
2) Be engaging. Don’t beat around the bush, or waste time mumbling or rambling on. Get straight to the point! Grab their attention! Hook them until the end! As a result you will see a larger number of people watch your video through. Make your video snappy, like the one you can see above.
I hope you found this helpful and you can implement it into your videos.
Increasing your watch time by improving your engagement and shortening your videos will help your videos to rank on Google’s first page. And that is a promise - I have tested it on 100’s of videos!
