How to prevent clamps?

Hi,

when I do have a workout on the cross-trainer (ergometer) I do get clamps in my calves from time to time.

What is the reason for getting cramps? I'm told magnesium will help to prevent getting clamps - is this true?

poor stretching before a workout is most likely the cause of cramps
 
being low on potassium will lead to easy cramps too, particularly leg cramps.

as for clamps....I dunno. maybe check a hardware forum? ;)
