How to make the football team.

So, the title says it. This is going to be a record of the next 6 months. At the end of that, I'm hoping to be accepted for a walk-on spot to the university football team. If not? Then I've spent 6 months changing myself into someone who is a hell of a lot physically better than he is right now. What's the loss?

I guess I'll open with the workout schedule I'm looking at.

M: HITT, Arms (failure sets)
T: HITT, Legs (maintenance sets)
W: Chest/Core (failure sets)
R: HITT, Arms (maintenance sets)
F: HITT, Legs (failure sets)
S: Chest/Core (maintenance sets)
S: Rest

Repeat.

What position? Also you have no back work in that setup. It needs some reworking. Are you starting from scratch or a built foundation?

There's no point in doing a body part split for football. You need fullbodies or at least an upper/lower split.

I'd be happy to play almost anything on the O-side, I played a little football in early high school and I really didn't find defense to be where I fit. If I could choose anything though, it would be Tight End.

.....yeah, I've seen the average sizes for a tight end. Yeah, I'm on the shortstack side of things. But even the NBA gets a guy who's 5'3" every now and then ;) I'd take anything, but thats what I'm shooting for.

As for the workout, I'd lumped the back in with "core." Also, it is scratch built, so any and all improvements appreciated.

I was planning on working up towards the full body workouts once I built some muscle. As of right now, I'm seriously lacking in that department :(

What are your current exercises? Back is not included with core, since your back is a much larger area than say your abdominals. Are you focusing on conditiioning also? To gain weight your gonna need clean calories, and a lot of them. Are you just starting out, or have you been working out already?

I dunno about where you are, but tryouts start in 2 weeks where I am.. Seems like a late decision. I'd reccomend speed drills along with an upper/lower split. And with such intense training you will need more calories, like tony said.
