(1) Cut down on sugar intake, syrups, saturated fats, avoid junk foods fizzy drinks, potato chips, brownies, all these foods are high in sugar and saturated fat which turn into solid fat when eaten, which is known to clog arteries raise your cholesterol which increases your risk of heart disease and other conditions.

(2) Get more exercise. It doesn't have to be a drudge, do something you like, walking, dancing, swimming, sport. Go for a short 30 minute walk four times a week this will greatly improve your heart. Start slowly at first and gradually increase your speed.

(3)Eat only when you are hungry, hunger leaves you tired, fuzzy and slows down metabolism, start with a good healthy breakfast and replace snacking with fruit snacks, also eat larger meals early in the day as your metabolism slows down as the day ends.

(4)Increasing your metabolism rate can help you lose more weight, overweight people usually have slow metabolisms, (metabolic rate is the rate your body burns calories). Skipping meals does not help calorie loss in fact eating small healthy meals frequently will increase metabolism, drinking ice cold water, your body burns calories to warm it up again, so make sure you drink appropriate amounts of it. Aerobic exercise is an excellent way also. Do not overdo your exercise program always check with your doctor or nutritionist for a suitable program. Always remember your health's your wealth.

Nobody said that losing weight would be easy, we all have tried diets from time to time, the good news is we can lose wight quickly and safely.:lurk5:

Basic information there..not bad except the cold water thing is a myth. Not so much that you do have to use a little more energy to burn it, it just happens to be so little that it is pretty much non-existant.

The multiple meal idea isn't exactly true. It's been proven that it doesn't, in it self, help weight loss. Instead, it's more psycological. If it helps you personally from overeating, then do it.

and you should never say you can lose weight quickly as that isn't a good way to lose weight. Be honest by telling people it will take time. It's a long journey.

I would love to know where this metabolism stuff started. I mean everyone attempts to relate it to everything about weight loss... All I know is that metabolism is the rate of breakdown (catabolic) and is increased in capacity with external factors (long and short term). Someone with a high metabolism will produce energy quicker and minimise retention. Can you shed any light on this Jericho? I love finding out the history of things. Any name, dates and was the government involved hahaha :D. All I remember about cold water is that its absorbed through the digestive tract quicker because of its temperature regulation duties, other than that I don't really know.

Sorry Sherley, Metabolism came up and I just love the fasination around it!

I don't have a specific link, but I gather that there were some comparisons between 1 meal a day and 9 meals a day that gave a significant metabolic advantage to 9 meals a day. Unfortunately, this is coming from my memory so I don't have a handy citation for you...

I think the easiest way to relate to metabolism is your basal metabolic rate - which is how many calories you'd burn not doing anything. Of course, you do have to do things during the day - like eat - so you can't get this information in a vaccum. You may want to google 'doubly labeled water study' and see what turns up, that's probably the most accurate way to measure how many calories someone actually burns.
