Sport How to boost Protein intake at Breakfast...

Sport Fitness
OK so I'm eating 6 meals a day (well, near enough) only I'm a little concerned I'm not getting enough protein.

I've just worked out I need around 32g protein per meal (going by the 1g protein for 1lb body weight estimate)

Realistically, my protein intake is roughly like this at the moment:

Meal 1: 15g (Cereal)
Meal 2: 30g (Shake)
Meal 3: 15g (Tuna/Chicken Sandwhich)
Meal 4: 15g (Tuna/Chicken Sandwhich)
Meal 5: 30g (Evening Meal)
Meal 6: 17g (Tuna)

Tot: 122g

Now I'm REAL lazy, I can just about pour myself a bowl of cereal in the morning, but cooking eggs just seems a pain in the ass. Can you get high protein cereals? What should I look out for?

Also I didn't realise so many of my meals are missing my protein target.

Any suggestions? How much protein do you guys take?

I usually add a bunch of stuff to my cereal. I usually have some Vector, then add wheat germ (which has lots of protein as well as fibre, iron, calcium, and vitamin E), and half a scoop of protein powder. I also throw in a bit of yogurt (sounds gross, and kind of is), for some extra good stuff, as well as ground flax, which also has protein in it.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but it seems very healthy.

One other thing - watch out for the amount of tuna you're eating. I assume we're talking about canned tuna. I thought that you were supposed to not eat so much because of the amounts of mercury in the tins. I heard once or twice a month was all you should be eating. No way to back this up, I'm not sure where I heard it, but maybe look into that.

Cheers

What? Surely that can't be right... LOADS of food it stored in tins, if there was a health risk they'd be taken off the shelves wouldn't they?

Anyway... protein powder in cereal... hmm I might try that :) But what's that other stuff? Vector? Wheat Germ? Ground Flax?

Your cereal looks pretty high protein as it is. I didn't know of any cereal containing 15g of protein...Unfortunately, protein in your cereal lacks essential amino acids and therefore cannot be used by your body for building muscle. You have to add animal protein or whey. Eat chicken or tuna if you can't be bothered with eggs.

Tins arnt sealed with led anymore afaik but there is mercury in it, from the tuna itself. There is a lot of opinions about how much you can you eat of it tho and its also dependant on where the particular tuna you eat is fished so really diffucult to say how much is "safe" to eat.

cereal is for carbs, not protein. any ' high protein' cereal will be loaded with soy. soy isn't good for men's testosterone levels.
suck it up and start cooking eggs.

As for tuna, no more than 5 tins of chunk light per week, or 3 tins of white albacore per week.
a simple google for 'mercury in tuna' will get you more detailed answers.

I'm lazy in the morning as well, so on Sunday I bake a crustless quiche that last me for the whole work week!! I just slice it up and throw a peice in the micro for 30 seconds!!! You can be creative and put what you want in them. This week I made....

6 eggs with a splash 1% milk, chopped up red and green peppers, a little chopped onion, low fat cheese mix. Sprayed a glass pie dish with butter spray mixed it all up and baked on 350 for 35 min!!! Prep time- 10 min if that!!!:D

Hope that helps!!!! Also I hate plain eggs, so this help that!!

If you don't liek cooking in the morning, do this:

Give yourself 1 hr, of one day a week, to prepare your breakfast for the entire week and cook up some hard boiled eggs. That way they are ready to eat whenever and can be taken on the go.

If you wanna eat eggs in the morning but cant be bothered to cook them then boil them the night before. in the morning, open then and mash them up, microwave and spread over toast.

Or you could add 3-4 egg whites to a fruit smoothie.

Or you could just be a real man like Rocky and just drink 5 raw eggs for breakfast!!!!!

Tuna

Heres a website where you can find how much tuna is safe to eat categorized by weight according to the FDA.

In my opinion, people cry way to much about it. For all we know, it's fine to eat. Do you know what kind of junk is put into milk when it is homogenized? Hormones galore! Did you know about 80% of chicken on the market is beefed up with hormones? These risks are just as bad as the very little amount of mercury.

Then don't bother cooking the eggs, just drink them.

They're not as bad as people make them out to be. Mix 1 cup of egg whites (you can start with 1/2 or 3/4) with low fat choc milk, drink up.

Good link to share, but as to your analogy: we know for a fact, dating back hundreds of years, that mercury poisonign is real and can have significantly bad effects on your health.

Milk from hormone injected cows may indeed be a health risk...but its not well studied yet.

I do agree that most people don't eat enough tuna to be concerned, but for those that do, its information worth knowing.

hmmm im thinking ima try to drink some raw eggs, just swallow them down. if i throw up i guess i wont do it. let you guys know heh

When I was young I was always told to be carefull of salmonella. My mum fussed on about washing hands after handeling raw eggs and made sure that everything was disinfected. Ive not heard anything about this for something.

Is it still a problem? I would love to try drinking raw eggs but not sure if its safe.
